We will be exploring how the Alexander Technique enables optimal organization for movement and performance. There are many ways to define the Technique, but one very important one is as a means whereby to enable the most efficient and effective movement possible. While we are exploring this organization we will experience the coordination of a long spine with our suspension system, breath, balance, and environment and tool handling. We will also notice how Alexander’s directions describe this integration. In addition we will experience how the same organization for peak performance is close to the optimal quality of hands-on teacher communication.

We have 8 baby chicks growing fast in our living room brooder, about to move outdoors to their chicken coop this weekend.
They have already brought such joy to our daily life. When we unzip their brooder, they all fly out gleefully showing off their new skills by perching with their warm dinosaur feet on our shoulders or making a (flying) run for the kitchen. The challenging part is catching them to go back in; the stealthy squats and extended reaching this requires reminds me daily of the need to stay active and limber as I age.

Come join me for this introductory Alexander Technique class. We will have fun doing movement sequences to help you find more ease and freedom in your daily activities - corralling your spring chickens, planting your gardens, or strolling through the city streets or the country hillsides.

Open to all ages and ability, this introductory Alexander Technique workshop will reveal how a change in our thinking can both reduce tension and encourage flow, balance, and joy in the movements of our everyday life. With playful exploration of gentle movement and awareness activities, we will discover how the Alexander Technique can help us move freer and feel easier in mind and body as we go about our day.

Many people find sitting painful or simply struggle to maintain an upright position. They start out sitting up straight and then slowly sink into an equally uncomfortable slouch. Sound familiar?

The Alexander Technique offers concrete tools for finding an in- between: easeful, sustainable sitting that encourages freer breathing and more comfort.

I celebrated teaching my 100th class of Everyday Movement for All through the Senior Services division of the Los Angeles LGBT Center recently! The wise, talented, and compassionate Marco Beghin of Body Economics first developed this class in person and after transitioning to Zoom during the pandemic he graciously offered me the opportunity to continue the journey when he had to step away. Thank you, Marco! ❤️ I have learned and grown so much as an Alexander Technique teacher (and as a human) with this group of remarkable individuals. With me in NYC and most of my students in LA, we come together every Friday to dance, move, and explore AT principles and procedures in connection with everyday activities. We also share laughs, sorrows and stories from our lives. Each class concludes with constructive rest. Thank you my dear friends; I can’t wait to keep learning, discovering and growing with you over the next 100 classes and beyond. And one of these days, I’m going to make it to LA so we can hold class in person!
