We were honored to welcome Rep. Ritchie Torres and the Third Avenue Business Improvement District Executive Director Pedro Suarez and Program Manager of Commercial Revitalization Ben Engel at The Richard Pruss Wellness Center in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

On their separate tours, they explored how our behavioral health, healthcare, and recovery services work together to deliver integrated, person-centered care to the community.

Centralized under one roof are:
* 2 Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs)
* A primary health care center
* A community-based recovery center
* A healthcare management and coordination service
* An opioid treatment program
* An Admissions Center

They were especially interested in our outreach efforts to share harm reduction tools and strategies and provide free Narcan training.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share our work. We look forward to collaborating with you and being a resource in the future.

In 2022, 32.6 million women in the U.S. were diagnosed with substance use disorder. Yet only 15.2% accessed treatment.

For women, the barriers to care look different than they do for men: social stigma, lack of gender-responsive services, and fear of losing custody, to name a few.

In the Summer issue of Behavioral Health News, Sarah March, Program Director of our Young Mothers Program in Manhattan, advocates for family-centered residential treatment, an approach that supports keeping families together instead of tearing them apart.

🎾 Game. Set. Fun! The kids from Gloria’s House and Bridge Haven Family Residences aced their very first tennis lesson with the New York Junior Tennis & Learning’s free Community Tennis Program! 🏆

From ages 6 to 17, our rising stars learned the basics of the game under the guidance of NYJTL instructor Albert. And the best part? They’re coming back for six more sessions! 💪

Big thanks to Program Director Lissette Rojano, Recreation Coordinator Faith Ortiz, and Admin Assistant Tyriek Eason for rallying with the crew. And, a special shoutout to VP of Transitional Housing Jerry Heaney for the winning connection! 💫

“This epidemic has been decades in the making. It’s not something we believe will be fixed overnight,” said Alicia McFarlane, our Executive VP and Chief Legal Officer, in a recent Gothamist article.

For more than five decades, Samaritan Daytop Village has partnered with New York City to bring addiction treatment and recovery services to individuals experiencing substance use disorder in the South Bronx.

Hear more from Alicia about the root causes of the crisis and how Samaritan is part of the solution ⬇️

We’re thrilled to announce that Charles Madray, our Vice President for Health Services and Community-Based Programs, will receive the Nyswander/Dole “Marie“ Award from the AATOD. Honorees are recognized for their service and contributions to the opioid treatment field.

This recognition is well deserved. For over a decade, Charles has been at the forefront of the Bronx’s response to the opioid epidemic, impacting more than 3,000 lives each year.

Congratulations, Charles! We can’t wait to see you accept your award at the AATOD awards ceremony in October!

🧦 It’s amazing what a simple item—like a pair of socks—can mean to someone in need.

A huge thank you to Jena Lanzetta, President of the Northwest Bayside Civic Association (NBCA), for spearheading a sock drive that delivered 650 pairs of warm, cozy, and stylish socks 🧦🧦 to the Northern Boulevard Women's Shelter in Queens!

The drive answered a call from the shelter's Program Director Robin Glenn, who shared just how essential socks are for residents in our transitional housing programs. (**🧦 are one of our most-requested donation items!)

Gratitude also goes to Victor Dadras of Dadras Architects Inc. for inviting Robin to speak at the local meeting, where civic leaders like the NBCA stepped up to help neighbors in need. 🙌

A healthy lifestyle is essential to support lasting recovery for people experiencing substance use disorder.

At Samaritan Daytop Village, we know the vital role nutrition plays in helping people rebuild their lives while in recovery.

That’s why we launched our Healthy Lifestyle Initiative—a program designed to equip participants with the tools to make informed, nourishing choices every day.

🎙 Hear from Jamel Lewis, our Peer Alliance Recovery Centers (PARC) Head Wellness Ambassador, and Annette Evans, Assistant Program Director at PARC Bronx, as they share how this initiative is making a difference in people’s lives on BronxNet Community Television’s show BronxTalk with Gary Axelbank.

🌿 Today is Global Forgiveness Day.

🕊️ For individuals in recovery, forgiveness is a gift given to others and to themselves. It’s not about forgetting, but about releasing the weight of the past to make space for healing and growth.

On this day, let’s honor the courage it takes to forgive — and the strength it brings to recovery.

🧠 Culturally competent mental health care should not be a luxury but the norm.

The U.S. is more diverse than ever: over 40% of the population identifies as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) (U.S. Census, 2020). Yet, they are less likely to receive mental health services because of stigma, systemic barriers, and a lack of culturally responsive services.

This , join us in raising awareness, breaking stigma, and expanding access to care. Throughout July, we’ll be sharing resources and upcoming trainings for children, teens, and adults.
