Finish Line Physical Therapy

Finish Line Physical Therapy Finish Line PT encompasses all forms of functional physical therapy. Our specialty is in working wit

Finish Line Physical Therapy is where NYC runners and endurance athletes go to get fitter, faster and injury free. With two locations in New York City, over 12,000 square feet of space in its flagship office and the most advanced treatment equipment available, Finish Line PT provides prehab, rehab and recovery services for an active population. Our prehabilition program proactively identifies any weaknesses that might negatively impact an athlete's training. Our rehabilitation philosophy is to evaluate and treat the entire body as a functional whole -- a fresh alternative to conventional rehab methods that generally isolate individual joints or body parts. Our custom recovery plans will help your body rebuild itself after a period of exertion and reverse the repetitive stress of training. Regardless of your needs and goals -- prehab, rehab, recovery, or a combination of the three -- our team of expert physical therapists will utilize our functional toolbox to create a customized treatment strategy that helps you prevent future injuries, recover from current ailments and achieve greater levels of performance.

Congrats to all our Berlin Marathoners! While the race conditions for this year’s race may have been far from ideal, we tip our hats to you for persevering and crossing that Finish Line 🇩🇪🥨🏅

Some recovery advice from : I recommend taking a minimum of 10 days, but ideally 2 full weeks off after a marathon. Biomarkers of muscle damage stay elevated for up to 9 days post marathon, but soft tissue structures can take up to 3-4 weeks to fully recover. So if you start running again after 2 weeks, keep it short, easy, and less days per week than during full training. I’d recommend waiting 4 weeks before starting to do faster paced sessions again unless you have another race on the calendar.

To all the Runners Down Under - good luck at the Sydney Marathon this Sunday 🇦🇺 A few tips from Sarah & Elizabeth who ran this course last year:

1️⃣ HILLS HILLS HILLS: “Don’t go out too fast” is important advice for any marathon, but especially one with steep downhills like Sydney. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of running through a new city and fly down the early hills, but your quads will thank you later if you remain patient. A conservative start will make the second half so much more enjoyable!

2️⃣ PHOTO MOMENT: watch for the photographer around Mile 8, runners’ right for an epic shot with the Harbour Bridge behind you.

3️⃣ RUN THE TANGENTS: this course has a lot of tight turns, so whenever possible, hug the inside of the corner to avoid doing extra mileage.

4️⃣ USE THE JET-LAG TO YOUR ADVANTAGE: if you’re jet-lagged coming from the US, you’ll most likely fall asleep earlier than you normally would, which will make the early race day alarm a bit easier.

5️⃣ ENJOY THE VIEWS: watching the sunrise over the Sydney Skyline as you cross the Harbour Bridge at the beginning, along with the Opera House finish line make for some of the most stunning views of any marathon course.

Good luck, runners! 🐨🇦🇺🦘

Taking you inside the treatment room…

worked with a runner who came in with an overuse injury that lead to a torn hamstring and ultimately surgery to repair the tendon.

When this happens, we don’t just rehab the surgical repair, we do a full assessment to rebuild and restrengthen to come back stronger and address the root cause so it doesn’t happen again.

Injuries happen but you don’t have to face them alone. We are on your team to help you get back to doing what you love safely and stronger than before.

We love a good run theme. And we love celebrating baby Matisko even more!! Congrats to the parents to be!
