Our wonderful staff shared a sunny day full of swimming, food, wine and laughter in the North Fork of Long Island. A much deserved break from our hard work keeping the office operating continuously throughout all these difficult months!

16/05/2020

During these extraordinary times, we at Ophthalmology Associates of Bay Ridge realized that we have many patients that require continuous uninterrupted eye care for conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, corneal infections, and many other emergent eye conditions. Because of this, we have remained OPEN during the Coronavirus pandemic, with the goal of providing essential eye care in an environment safe for our staff, doctors and patients. Early on we had our practice building terminally cleaned. We required the wearing of masks for staff and patients alike. We screened patients for Coronavirus symptoms during the appointment confirmation phone call and upon entry into our building. We enforced social distancing in the waiting room and practiced enhanced disinfection procedures in the examination rooms between patients.

These measures have allowed us to operate safely for over 2 months now. We are happy to report that efforts have paid off: our office and staff have been Coronavirus-free as we provided essential continuous eye care to our beloved patients in the Bay Ridge community.

Our dedicated staff have come to work every day under the most extraordinary circumstances, with loved ones falling ill, children out of school requiring attention, risking infection, financial challenges etc. They deserve a mountain of credit for their efforts in keeping our practice open and available for our patients in this time of crisis.

We are looking forward to a better future when things return to normal, but in the meantime we will continue to provide excellent eye care in a safe environment. We thank our patients for their cooperation with our enhanced safety procedures as well.

God Bless and Stay Safe,

Elias Aliprandis MD
Stephen Conrad, MD

Ophthalmology Associates of Bay Ridge is pleased to announce that we now perform corneal cross-linking for keratoconus! We encourage all of our keratoconus patients who are experiencing progression of the disease to be evaluated for this treatment.

We have acquired Avedro's FDA-approved collagen cross-linking system for the treatment of keratoconus and post-LASIK corneal ectasia. This treatment was approved by the FDA in 2016 and we are among the first Brooklyn ophthalmology practices to offer this procedure.

Numerous European and American studies of corneal crosslinking have shown considerable efficacy in slowing or halting keratoconus progression, thereby often preventing the need for a corneal transplant.

This procedure is particularly critical for young keratoconus patients who are most likely to progress and who do not yet have advanced disease. The ravages of advanced keratoconus could be spared in these young patients, thereby reducing morbidity considerably. The cross-linking procedure is done on site with topical anesthesia in our Bay Ridge office in about 75 minutes.
