January is National Poverty Awareness Month, and cash bail is a problem disproportionately affecting low-income Americans. According to the Prison Policy Initiative, over 400,000 legally innocent people in America are jailed pretrial—many of them because they cannot afford cash bail. The number of people detained before their trial has almost quadrupled since the 80's.

At CASES, we believe poverty is a condition—not a crime. We must protect bail reform that promotes support and reduces unnecessary incarceration.

New year, same values.

In 2026, we’re staying focused on what actually works: community, dignity & support.

At CASES, we invest in people’s potential and treat mental illness, poverty and homelessness as conditions—not crimes. Because when everyone has access to care, our communities thrive.

Here’s to another year of helping New Yorkers heal, grow and succeed.

New York’s Raise the Age law is under attack.

Passed in 2019, Raise the Age keeps young people under 18 out of adult courts for non-violent charges—connecting them to age-appropriate services instead of adult facilities.

Despite fear-based claims, the data is clear: youth crime has declined, not increased. Since 1995, violent crime among youth under 18 is down 67% nationwide.

Rolling back Raise the Age won’t make us safer. Investing in young people's potential—not punishment—does. Read more at the link below.

Too many New Yorkers face jail instead of mental health care. Not because treatment doesn’t work, but because it’s too hard to access.

CASES is closing that gap.

Our Nathaniel Clinic, mobile treatment teams and specialized services for youth bring care at critical moments that can change the course of a life.

As the year comes to a close, there’s still time to help. Your tax-deductible year-end gift ensures care comes before punishment.

A 14-year-old sat in a courtroom, facing consequences after of years being denied access to mental health care.

Then his lawyer said something unexpected: “This is going to be your therapist.”

That moment changed everything.

CASES Adolescent Portable Therapy (APT) brings licensed therapists directly to court-involved young people and their families—at home and when it matters most. Instead of punishment, APT offers accountability, connection and a real chance to change direction.

Tonight, your impact can go twice as far.
Thanks to a $5,000 matching gift from Ponce Bank, every dollar donated will be matched before midnight.

For many young people in our OnTrack NY program, this is their first connection to mental health care. That moment matters.

OnTrack supports teens and young adults experiencing their first episode of psychosis with care that feels open, warm and welcoming—meeting them where they are, at their pace and in their community.

This is what being Connected by Care looks like.

This December, your support helps ensure young people aren’t facing that first moment alone.
