In 1996, I was asked to visit Ivana Trump in her home at 10 E 64th Street. The phone call was very strange. A woman named Dorothy Curry, Ivana's assistant, whispered that Ivana had an event and would like for me to come up for a massage therapy session; I did not include acupuncture in my practice until 2016.
Ivana was very sweet. Ivanka was 15 years old at the time and had quite a fowl mouth I recall. Ivana would say, Ivanka, watch your mouth, we have company. I was working with Liza Minnelli at the time, while she took over the role of Victor/Victoria on broadway from Julie Andrews. I was the attending therapist for many of the musicals on Broadway at that time, but was assigned to Liza specifically to support her to stay sober.
Ivana wanted to know what to do with her butler. He wanted to borrow her car. She asked did I think she should lend him her car? No, I said, that sounds inappropriate to me. She felt that his feelings would be hurt if she did not lend him her car. I suggested that she rent a Hertz for her butler, which ran about $100 per day at the time. She felt that he would be hurt if she did that. I was so tired of her whining about such nonsense that I said, so lend him your car, just to put an end to this tortuous subject.
On another visit she said, I looked all over for you at the Mayor's party at Le Cirque (Brasserie), two blocks north on Park Avenue. Didn't I go to the mayor's party at Le Cirque. No, Ivana I did not go to the mayor's party at Le Cirque. Oh, she said.
On my fourth and final visit, she asked if I had taken my yacht down the coast of Italy. She looked for me at every port and could not find me. Didn't you take your yacht down the coast of Italy? No, Ivana, I did not take my yacht down the coast of Italy this summer. Oh, she said.
The next time Dorothy whispered that Ivana has an event and would like me to come up at 3:30pm, I said please stop calling me Dorothy. I cannot drop everything when Ivana has an event. I have longtime, faithful clients who respectfully reserve my time weeks in advance. Thankfully, Whispering Dorothy stopped calling me. Alas, fowl-mouthed Ivanka could then curse to her heart's content.
Five months after being placed on the market, the home has yet to find a buyer, setting off curiosity and a range of theories among real estate watchers.
