I'd like to share a rather unusual and free aces prevention resource...parenting tips bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo, CA nonprofit, produces parenting tips bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to schools, businesses, organizations, clinics, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting and prevent child abuse five, ten, twenty, fifty years down the road. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

When going through depressive episodes getting out of bed and engaging in even the limited forms of self-care—bathing, and combing hair can feel impossible. If you were able to overcome this mental mountain today you should feel ACCOMPLISHED.

Grief is...
That's just it — grief is different for everyone. Sometimes you can sum it up in one word. Devastating. Overwhelming.

Other times you may need a few words to describe how you are feeling:
'I feel lost.' 'Nothing is the same.' 'Something is missing from my life.' I'm sure there are many different ways to try to describe your feelings. Sometimes there is no way to begin.

There is no expiration date to grief and there are times that assistance through this period can be helpful. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our office or some other form of professional mental health services. Don't allow yourself to drown in grief. Some find it helpful to journal how they feel. Others find a pleasant distraction in some type of hobby. Some find joy in doing acts of kindness for others.

Lastly, remember that sometimes there will be day-by-day moments, and other times it may be moment-by-moment. There is a form of joy that can be enjoyed in life again while learning to live with your grief.
