Over the last 10 years in the fat loss and muscle building world

I started noticing a pattern.

And honestly… I’ve lived that exact pattern too.

It wasn’t the beginners who were stuck.

It was the women doing everything “right.”

Training consistently.
Tracking their macros.
Keeping their food clean.
Running companies. Leading teams. Raising families.

And still watching their midsection get softer.

At first glance, it feels like a fat loss issue.

That’s what I thought too.

So naturally… I trained harder. Cleaned things up even more. Doubled down.

Which turns out, wasn’t the move.

Because it’s not mainly a fat loss problem.

It’s a muscle retention problem.(I swear if you have one "aha" moment this entire post I hope this is it)

Fat around your midsection is more sensitive to cortisol...your main stress hormone.

In other words...stress tends to hit your stomach harder.

When you stack serious mental load, consistent training, and not-great recovery, your body doesn’t defend muscle the way it used to… and it gets more efficient at storing fat centrally.

So you don’t necessarily gain a ton of fat.

You lose muscle.

And that changes how you look...even if the scale barely moves.

That realization changed everything for me.

Especially after 35.

Because continuing to eat less and train more in that state doesn’t fix it. It usually makes it worse.

You trained before the house was awake.
You’ve had back to back calls all day.
You’re answering Slack while reheating dinner.

You train consistently.
You track your food.
You keep it “clean.”

And somehow… your stomach is softer than it was three years ago.

You didn’t suddenly lose discipline.

and stores fat more centrally.

Might catch some heat for this one...but it needs to be said

Let's talk about the kids menu for a second

Nutritionally… it’s kind of a mess.

Look at the numbers.

Mac & cheese
~400 calories
50g carbs
15–20g fat
8–10g protein

Chicken fingers & fries
~600+ calories
50–70g carbs
25–35g fat
12–15g protein

Cheese pizza
~280 calories per slice
30g carbs
10–14g fat
7–9g protein

Now zoom out.

And what are they actually getting?

Mostly refined carbs.
A decent hit of fat.
Not much protein relative to the calories.
Almost no fiber.

I’m not saying your kid can’t have pizza.

I’m saying if most of their exposure is beige, fried, carb heavy food…

That becomes the baseline.

That’s what tastes “normal.”

We’d never build an adult performance plan like this.

But we accept it for kids because it’s easy.

The kids menu isn’t designed for growth optimization.

It’s designed for convenience.

Big difference.

Feed your kids like you feed yourself 🙌

Eating less is not the flex people think it is.

Some of the most frustrated women I work with are also the most disciplined.

Low calories.
Long workouts.
Zero patience left by Thursday.
Sleep is trash.

If you’re training and eating “by the book” but progress feels slower than it should...hormones may be influencing the outcome.

Here are the big ones I look at with clients

✨ Insulin
When it’s stable, your body can burn fat.
When it spikes frequently, fat loss gets harder.
👉 Signs it may be off: constant cravings, energy crashes.
👉 Easiest check: fasting insulin or blood sugar.

✨ Cortisol
Your stress hormone.
Chronically elevated levels can make fat loss, especially around the stomach, more difficult.
👉 Signs it may be off: poor sleep, wired but tired, afternoon slumps.
👉 Can be checked with blood or saliva testing.

✨ Estrogen and Progesterone
These hormones need balance.
Imbalances can contribute to bloating, water retention, and fat storage.
👉 Signs it may be off: PMS, irregular cycles, overnight scale jumps.
👉 A hormone panel can help confirm.

✨ Testosterone
Yes, women need it too.
It supports muscle, recovery, and a lean appearance.
👉 Signs it may be low: difficulty building muscle, reduced strength, slower recovery.
👉 Ask for it on a standard blood panel.

✨ Thyroid (T3, T4, TSH)
These hormones regulate metabolism.
If they’re under functioning, fat loss can feel disproportionately difficult.
👉 Signs it may be off: fatigue, stubborn weight, feeling cold, thinning hair.
👉 Don’t rely on TSH alone. Ask for a full thyroid panel.

Bottom line
Training and nutrition matter.
Hormones influence how well your body responds to them.

I was catching up with a girlfriend this weekend I hadn’t seen in years.

And it was funny… because she only knew the version of me who lived on vodka sodas and low-fat everything.

The girl who thought more cardio was the answer.
Who skipped meals to “save calories" for dinner later.
Who obsessed over her body but never actually felt good in it.

That version of me stayed stuck in a loop for over a decade—despite trying everything.

Because here’s the truth no one tells you:
Most smart women aren’t failing because they’re lazy.

My Story

Hi, my name is Haylee.

A little background about me, I'm a certified personal trainer, kettlebell coach and group fitness instructor. I have affiliations with the National Federation of Personal Trainers, Strongfirst School of Strength and the Athletics and Fitness Association of America. I absolutely LOVE what I do. Nothing is more rewarding than helping other people. My goal is to help you get the same insane results I got using kettlebells and my easy to follow program. So why trust me that this workout is going to be different than everything else you've tried? There are two solid reasons I know this will work for you: 1. You only need one piece of inexpensive equipment that will burn 400 calories in only 20 minutes...forget the pep talk to get to the gym for an hour long sweat session. 2. You don't have to motivate yourself to get to the gym, you can do kettlebell workouts right in your living room. If you’ve been on the weight loss merry-go-round for many years, I can totally sympathize. I have had a very rough road to fitness myself. I tried every workout and diet there was and spent the majority of my life trying to lose weight and tone up with no success...until I started training with kettlebells. In total, my transformation was a 30 pound weight loss. I have lean and toned muscle which keeps me on track by helping me burn more calories all day long. But way more importantly, I feel great in my clothes, I can pick up my daughter with ease and I feel sexy and confident every single day. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say it has changed my life and I can’t wait to show you how it can change yours.
