September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and it is fitting that it coincides with the raw and powerful cry of the shofar.

On Rosh Hashanah, we are reminded to confront even the hardest truths. One of the most painful: too many young lives are lost to su***de. They are not statistics — they are our sons, daughters, siblings, and friends.

This powerful message was written by Ohel’s CEO, David Mandel, who wanted to share this message with our community during this season of reflection.

We must not be silent. Together, we can create space for hope, connection, and a healthy life.

We were honored to have NYS Senator Sam Sutton visit Ohel today, along with Director of Intergovernmental and External Affairs Leah Goldman, Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Emily Bruggeman. In addition to touring Ohel’s array of mental health and community services, our discussion focused on the large number of individuals on the autism spectrum who are dually diagnosed with a developmental disability and a psychiatric disability.

At Ohel, we understand the power and impact support groups can have in helping you heal, grow, and move forward.

Just like Taylor and Travis found strength in each other, we believe in the strength that comes from real connection—the kind that happens when you’re seen, heard, and supported through life’s hardest moments.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, loss, parenting challenges, recovery, or trauma, you don’t have to do it alone.

Our groups are here for you. Led by experienced clinicians. Rooted in compassion and built for real life.
