At 68, Celestino Quinones is living a chapter defined by strength and possibility, but the road here hasn’t been easy. He grew up between Puerto Rico and New York City, facing instability from a young age.
In adulthood, Celestino spent nearly four years in the shelter system. He searched for a home that truly fit. When he learned about Community Access, he was hesitant. “I thought it would be just like a shelter. I told myself I’d try it for a month… and if I didn’t like it, I’d go back.”
Today, he’s grateful he took that chance. “I like that I have my own apartment and can keep it clean. That’s my space.” He also values the support around him: “If I need something, my case manager is always there for me.”
Family fuels his joy, especially time with his children and eight grandkids, including his youngest granddaughter, his beloved “Spiderwoman” for her endless climbing and jumping.
Reflecting on all he’s come through, Celestino is clear: I’ve improved my life through my own strength.” 💙
