“I want more joy and giving and just people being represented and heard and supported.”

In a new interview with People, Ricki Lake reflects on healing after loss and the importance of talking openly about mental health. She shares why Community Access and Changing Minds remain close to her heart, and why permanent housing, community, and youth storytelling are essential to reducing stigma and building empathy.

We’re so grateful for Ricki’s continued support, advocacy, and partnership. Read the full story: https://people.com/ricki-lake-had-a-traumatizing-year-after-the-l-a-wildfires-took-her-home-now-she-wants-to-talk-mental-health-exclusive-11878022

Throwback to the Changing Minds Young Filmmaker Festival this spring! Truly an unforgettable night of storytelling, community, and conversation. 💙

Having open conversations about mental health truly matters in breaking down stigma. 💬 The feeling in the theater as we watched these films and heard from the young filmmakers about their inspiration and impact was unforgettable.

We’re thrilled that these same stories are now reaching audiences worldwide! Changing Minds is now streaming on Apple TV+, Amazon, and Google Play: featuring ten award-winning short films and an exclusive panel with John Turturro, Laurie M. Tisch, and young filmmakers.

Huge thanks to the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund and for making this possible and for their continued support of youth mental health. 💙

At 68, Celestino Quinones is living a chapter defined by strength and possibility, but the road here hasn’t been easy. He grew up between Puerto Rico and New York City, facing instability from a young age.

In adulthood, Celestino spent nearly four years in the shelter system. He searched for a home that truly fit. When he learned about Community Access, he was hesitant. “I thought it would be just like a shelter. I told myself I’d try it for a month… and if I didn’t like it, I’d go back.”

Today, he’s grateful he took that chance. “I like that I have my own apartment and can keep it clean. That’s my space.” He also values the support around him: “If I need something, my case manager is always there for me.”

Family fuels his joy, especially time with his children and eight grandkids, including his youngest granddaughter, his beloved “Spiderwoman” for her endless climbing and jumping.

Reflecting on all he’s come through, Celestino is clear: I’ve improved my life through my own strength.” 💙

Community Access CEO Cal Hedigan spoke with The New York Times about a federal proposal that could cut housing for 170,000 people nationwide.

As Cal said: these proposed changes would be catastrophic. The solution to homelessness is for people to have access to high-quality affordable and supportive housing. We remain committed to defending solutions that we know help people build stable, self-determined lives.
