Did you know? 💡 On September 15, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica celebrate their independence from Spain (1821). Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, commemorating the 1810 “Grito de Dolores” that launched the fight against Spanish rule. Happy Independence Day!

At The Open Door, we love celebrating our students — we strive to support them in their goals as they embrace and assimilate into U.S. culture, while remembering and valuing their own unique backgrounds! Many of our students are immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

The Open Door volunteers are caring, compassionate individuals who want to make a direct impact in the lives of immigrants. As a volunteer, you will set apart 1.5 hours weekly to teach English classes, encouraging and equipping our adult immigrant students to learn the language and be better prepared at work and with their families at home. You’ll cross cultural bridges and build incredible friendships… It’s truly a rewarding experience!

In-person and online opportunities available!!

If you can’t commit to weekly volunteering, we’d love to have you join us as a substitute teacher, willing to jump in if needed!
