This was a challenging acne case that I was called on for a second opinion. The patient was started on Accutane with another provider, and experienced a severe flare of her acne. Accutane management is both an art and science. Our results speak for themselves. When Accutane patients graduate, we celebrate their patience, their dedication to skin health, and their beautiful results.

Lip filler gets a bad rap because of people who think that looking like you’ve had an anaphylactic reaction on your face is attractive. Bigger isn’t better. Any brand of filler can be used for good or bad; each filler shines for different purposes and they’re not all interchangeable.

Be wary of injectors who only offer 1-2 types of filler. In our office, we are able to tailor what we feel is the best choice for you because we carry every single FDA-approved filler! Most offices deal with 1-2 brands (and become loyal customers of that brand.) Having all the filler options at one’s disposal enables the doctor to gain invaluable hands-on experience using all of them.

It’s gratifying to see a teenage patient’s skin clear up over time. With acne, it’s important to never give up. Fortunately, we have many options and different things work for different people! I like to be a hands-on and a bit aggressive in my approach whenever scarring is happening-time to act. As adults, people still talk about their experience having acne as a teenager because so much time and energy and money go into shopping for results and cures, it leaves an imprint. In this way, acne can be all-encompassing. Think about the long time some people spend in front of the mirror trying to conceal pimples and marks with makeup. Acne is more just an aesthetic issue, and if you’ve ever dealt with severe acne, you know this well.

In this interview, I talk about the importance of continuing rosacea therapy even once the skin looks clear, and why it’s important to be patient when assessing results of therapy.

Take a look at my patient’s acne transformation🌟. While adult acne is usually not as widespread on the face as teenage acne, the pimples can be more stubborn and persistent😡. For this reason, patients with adult acne can get very frustrated. There are several effective medications for this condition, which is one that I love to treat.

Sometimes we use filler to harmonize the facial features, not to plump or contour. No one is perfectly even, but some people are less even (more uneven!) than others. Here, I used lip filler to restore a more natural ratio between the upper/lower lips, to define the lip border, and to give the illusion of a shorter philtrum.

Dermatillomania (i.e. skin picking) and hair pulling (trichotillomania) disorders—also known as body-focused repetitive behaviors, or BFRBs—are seldom discussed due to the stigma associated generally with mental health issues, plus the incomprehensibility of how a person could be able to physically harm themselves, time and time again.

Though BFRBs are relatively common, especially skin picking in middle-aged women, people struggling with them feel ashamed and misunderstood, even by doctors, who often don’t understand what’s going on.

Behavioral treatment for BFRBs is available and will be the topic of a webinar this Thurs which can hopefully help someone reading this. (Disclaimer: I am not affiliated in any way with the event.)

Here is a patient with extensive bruising on her neck from a neck lift procedure by a plastic surgeon. I used the ExcelV laser on her, and within 48 hours, the bruise was nearly resolved.

The circles represent the lasered areas. Although technically there are skip areas, they really highlight how well the laser works.) I use this laser on all types of bruising and scars.
