Does it ever feel like you’re out to sea without a boat? When we’re dealing with a cyclical mood disorder like Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), our mental health can tank, seemingly without warning -and unless we have the tools to swim out, so to speak, life can be pretty rough. 🌊

This is why I am launching Wild Warriors, a virtual community course for women struggling with PMDD to connect, help our health, and learn skills!

We will spend 2 weeks during my 7-week course gaining skills and tools from Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) so that you can enjoy smoother relationships, know just what to do when the going gets tough, and be more at peace in your life…if you or someone you love is having difficulty with PMDD, there are things we can do to empower our mental health and SUFFER LESS…🏄🏽‍♀️🚣🏿‍♀️⛵️🛟🏝️

We’re beginning 11/1 (1 week from today) with weekly online classes that are available recorded if you’re not able to join live! Plus, it’s PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN, so what do you have to lose except drama and dysregulation..?⛈️☔️☂️☀️

This hibiscus bloomed in my backyard over the summer - shortly after I did some much-needed fertilizing!🌺 It got me thinking about how we treat our own bodies and minds, and what we can do to either help or hinder our own energy levels and ability to grow! As a practitioner of Lifestyle Medicine, I am curious about what needs to be nurtured for optimal health, and that is part of what I teach in my Wild Warriors coaching course…

There are certain things we can do to set the foundation for mental health - and which could make a big difference in how you experience your cycle each month - and I want you to know what they are. That’s why I’m offering this community coaching course for individuals having difficulty with PMDD. We don’t have to suffer so much, and we don’t have to suffer alone.🌺🌺🌺

7 weeks of nourishment; a lifetime of community & skills. You owe it to yourself!☔️🩷🫶🏽 wildmoontherapy.com/wild-warriors

This quote comes from Wild Power, one of my favorite books about menstrual cycle! It is a go-to for me, and has influenced much of my work- especially Wild Warriors!

It’s time for me to be sharing the reality about hormones, mood, and trauma-and how they intersect… We all really need to know how to comprehensively & holistically track our menstrual cycles. We’ll cover that in Week 1:)

Wild Warriors is an online space where individuals experiencing PMDD come together to be nurtured- without the big energy/money/time investment of long-term therapy. I’m going to give you all of the skills I’ve developed in over 5 years of practicing as a PMDD therapist-so that you can heal yourself.

We’ll be beginning Wednesday 11/1! Registration is open now! Find out more here: https://www.wildmoontherapy.com/wild-warriors

Finished this gem this morning! (Is there anything better than a slow Sunday morning with a good book?!☕️☺️)

I have not spoken much about my personal journey over the last few years of infertility and childlessness, however I’d like to begin being more vocal about it… While being super mindful not to over share, I think it’s really important for childless women to have more visibility in our pronatalist culture! I’ve felt incredibly alone at points during the past several years, which was largely because there are few positive cultural role models for childless women, and as virtually no one I knew personally could relate to my experience! Nothing makes grief and trauma more painful than isolation…

I’m not sharing this for pity or sympathy-I simply feel the deep need to bring so many of the experiences that women have into the light-and infertility is one of them.

Some of you may not know that infertility is one of my sub-specialties in my women’s mental health practice, as well. It’s an all too often guilt-laden, taboo experience, and I’m so grateful that this incredible book busts that all open. Shout out to for birthing a much needed global movement. 🙏🏿💝

WHEN: This Friday 5/5 @ 12p MT

WHERE: Zoom

WHY: Because we as women have been underrepresented, underresearched, and underresourced! We need the full picture of what happens during our cycles each month, and throughout our lifetimes! Your mental health depends on many factors and I want you to be informed… (Also, it’s free so why not??)

HOW: Follow the link in bio or DM to be sent the link (24 hrs ahead)- you’ll be sent the recording if you cannot attend live

WHAT: Real talk about: hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle and what they mean for your mental health; the hormone sensitivity/high sensitivity phenomenon; types of trauma; and hormonal ‘vulnerability windows’ during which we are both more susceptible and more resilient…🤍💗🌷🌷

It’s our final of the month, and I wanted to take moment to talk about PMDD and how it can impact our intuition!

In many ways, the premenstrual time is one of going inwards. Sometimes referred to as the “inner fall”, the rise in progesterone is going to put us in a more introverted mood. This can be hard when we live in a society that doesn’t honor cycles, often resulting in getting pulled in various directions, and feeling the need to push ourselves to show up, even when we don’t feel like it. And while sometimes this is necessary, it can also leave us feeling drained and disconnected from ourselves!

An action I find helpful during the premenstrual time is sensing and setting boundaries. When are stretched too thin and trying to accommodate others, we are not able to feel what it is we actually need, which means we cannot make decisions that will truly be useful to us. Since we are hormonally primed for boundary setting during the Luteal Phase, it can be a total game changer to harness it and state what it is you need…

Be warned, my friends: this is counter-cultural work. You may not be rewarded externally, however your reward will be your own clarity and health…💖💖💖

Become a Wild Warrior and learn all about your Luteal Phase, boundary setting, and more in my community course that begins Wednesday 5/17! Follow the link in my bio for all the info!

Also, show some love to IAPMD today: iapmd.org -this is an incredible organization committed to helping people with PMDs worldwide, as well as continuing to share knowledge.

PMD Awareness Challenge Day 22: Smile

Do you know that old song that goes, “smile though your heart is aching…”? I’ve both loved it and hated it at various times, because while it reminds us to find the good, it might also be suggesting that we should mask what we’re truly feeling with a smile. And I just say no to toxic positivity!😅❌

Today’s topic really got me thinking about negativity bias, or the human phenomenon that has us naturally oriented toward what is unpleasant. This function exists to keep us safe, yet it can also make us miserable. So it is important as we are rewiring our systems, that we intentionally bring awareness toward pleasure. It can be the simplest things: something you can see, smell, or taste; a tingling or softness in your body; thinking of a person or animal you love. But it is the intentional redirection of our attention to the good that is the magic.

So next time you are struggling, don’t mask, allow what is there, and redirect your attention to something that brings you comfort. Maybe it will make you smile. 💙🖤🤍✨

‘Tis and today we’re talking about PMDD and your heart (meaning your emotional self)…while any and all emotions can certainly be felt during the premenstrual time (fun fact: there are 10 core emotions that all humans everywhere experience ) there’s one that tends to come up A LOT… and that little emotion, my friends, is Anger.

Anger (which sometimes escalates into rage) is the emotion that tells us a boundary has been crossed, that something isn’t okay with us, that we need to assert our “no”. It’s often valid, yet we all know how destructive it can be when we let it rip. ⚡️☄️💥🔥🌪️🌊

When it comes to our most important relationships, we really want to ride the line between standing up for ourselves, and keeping the relationship loving and intact. It’s a balancing act, for sure, yet totally learnable…

We’ll be covering this and oh so much more in the community course that starts next month -become a Wild Warrior to feel more connected and whole as a highly sensitive women with PMDD. 💔❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥 (registration opens Wednesday 5/3 -link in bio)

Also, an important piece about is that we want to shower the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders with love and money. They are an incredible nonprofit organization that supports, advocates, and educates all things PMD. Check them out and consider making a donation here: IAPMD.org 💙💙💙

PMD Awareness Challenge Day 17: Toolkit

Today was a difficult day for me…I wasn’t feeling up to making a video, so I gave myself permission not to, which is one tool in my kit…

I also busted out some tried and true DBT skills: IMPROVE the moment and Building Mastery in baking a layer cake, and Self-Soothe in snuggling with my pup!!

It’s not just about having the skills-it’s also about knowing which ones to use when. what’s in your mental health/PMD toolkit? 🔨🔧🪛🧰🍰🐶❤️‍🩹

It’s again, y’all, and today I want to discuss PMDD & your mind…

One of the most pervasive experiences of PMDD is increased self-judgment during the premenstrual time, which can be very hard to deal with. The way I like to work with self-judgment is, first, to become aware that this is a judgment -not the truth. Second, we can check the facts and ask ourself what is true.

Then, we can reframe this thought using only what is true. Sometimes this means being willing to accept something we might be struggling with, that we cannot control. If this is the case, what would help you surrender to what is?! 💙💛

We’ll be covering this and much more in my community course that starts Wednesday 5/17. Registration opens Wednesday 5/3. See bio for link to get on the waitlist/more info. ✨✨✨✨✨

04/04/2023

Today is and I want to talk about PMDD and your body. Like any trauma, PMDD disconnects us from our physical body by desensitizing us to sensations that are there in any given moment. It’s the nervous system’s way of protecting us from what it registers as unmanageable emotion, yet it tends to only make our symptoms worse in the long run.

One way of working with this “freeze state” from a somatic perspective, is to decrease over-stimulation in the environment around us, while increasing interoceptive awareness (what we’re feeling inside our body). You might simply see which things in your world tire you, and then set an intention to ask your body what it wants to feel more supported.

We’ll be covering this, and lots more in my seven-week, remote community coaching course for highly sensitive women with PMDD - Wild Warriors. We start Wednesday 5/17…see my bio for the link to more info, and to get on the waitlist. ❤️‍🔥🐺🦋🪷🌙🏋🏾🧘🏼‍♀️🤸🏻‍♀️🏄🏿‍♀️⛰️

PSA, my loves: it’s that time of year again, and we a losing light fast. If you have a light lamp now is the time to start using it; and if you don’t have one, to consider making the investment. (This is mine that I busted out this morning!)🤗

Did you know that PMS and PMDD are related to circadian rhythms, which govern night and day/light and dark, in addition to hormones such as melatonin. Especially if you get any kind of seasonal depression, adding 20 minutes of light to your morning routine (with eyes open) can really take the edge off.☀️🌑🍁

(Also want to say that it’s been awhile since I’ve posted as Wild Moon, and I appreciate your patience. I’ve had an intense year personally with many transitions, yet I’m planning to be more present in these ways soon.😊🙏💖)

It’s a snowy morning here in Denver. More and more I’m feeling the slow down of the season, the yin energy of this time of year. ⛄️

Yin is the “feminine”, the pieces of us that know how to surrender and receive. It is the exhale, the nighttime, the darkness, the rest. It’s the unseen, the unknown, the underworld. It is all that is encapsulated in the unconscious - both personally and collectively. ✨

Unfortunately, our society at large tends to reject or ignore these aspects of the world, which is a big reason why we find ourselves in the crisis we are in. And since the personal is political, the only way we can see large-scale shifts, is to shift at the level of the tiny. We get on our mats, we breathe, we turn towards what might feel edgy and unsettled within us. And we do not turn away. 🖤

Let’s practice, shall we? This evening, 5-6:30p MT - on the Zoom. DM or email: cynthia@wildmoontherapy.com for the link. Pay-what-you-want; proceeds support womenforafganwomen.org.
