Pancreatic and Gastric Cancers affect the gastro-intestinal (GI) system. In addition to the Pancreas and Stomach, the GI system also includes the Liver, Small and Large Bowel, and Re**um.

Compared to other cancers, gastro-intestinal cancers have the highest rates of new diagnoses and account for 1 out of 4 cancer related deaths. GI cancers are a particular concern for individuals who identify as Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI). Despite relatively low cancer mortality overall, AAPI individuals diagnosed with liver or stomach cancer are 40-50% more likely to die from these cancers than white patients.

The Charles B. Wang Community Health Center continues to encourage all to learn more about Pancreatic and Gastric cancers and start conversations with your healthcare providers and loved ones. Early awareness and early detection can make a difference!

People may think, “I feel fine, so I don’t need an annual physical.” But annual checkups are not only for when you are sick. Many health issues can be prevented and addressed when they are found early. A yearly checkup is one of the most effective ways to prevent health problems before they start.

Life gets busy, but making time for your annual checkup is one of the most important steps you can take for your health. Mark your calendar, set reminders, and treat your health appointment like any other essential commitment.
