Located between Swat & Buner, Illum Valley has a historical significance with religion, tourism, flora & local culture since Alexander's invasion. KPK Archeology Department also plans to declare this historic site as a National Heritage Site to preserve its integrity. Access to Illum Valley is difficult mainly due to non-availability of communication infrastructure. Important steps are being taken by security forces for promotion of tourism in the area so that approach of tourists to the Illum Valley is possible. Access to Illum Valley is difficult mainly due to non-availability of communication infrastructure. Work is going on rapidly on Illum Road. Apart from this, efforts are being made for other basic facilities in the area so that locals & tourists can be benefitted. Work has been started at Illum Police Station and Police Check Post Jobra to maintain law and order in Illum Valley. While the establishment of Basic Health Unit in the area has also been approved. Along with the construction of roads and infrastructure in Illum Valley, the security forces are also focusing to build schools in the area to provide education opportunities to local children. Swat valley & surrounding areas are peaceful & due to tourism, Pak economy is growing. Due to the ongoing steps taken by the security forces, Illum Valley will soon become a tourist destination and will also create employment opportunities for the local population.
