Yogi Beans is an educational, energetic, and transformative yoga–for–kids program. Our age-specific curricula are designed to introduce kids to the foundations of yoga and translate yoga philosophy into a language they can understand and internalize for use throughout all aspects of their lives. The body-mind-heart tools of yoga and mindfulness are inherently noncompetitive and highly personal. Our programs enable kids to experience and explore learning techniques that offer proven methods of regulating their physical bodies, managing their mental faculties, and fostering happier and healthier people.

There are many simple, age-appropriate ways to introduce meditation to children. 🧘‍♀️ You can explain that meditation is when we practice quieting our thoughts and focusing our attention on one thing. 💭✨ Keep in mind, children won’t stay in silent meditation for long, so start small (30 seconds to 2 minutes) and gradually build from there. ⏳🌱

🌬 Counting Breath:
Begin with a simple 3-count breath, gradually working up to inhaling and exhaling for a 5-count. 🌿

🕉 Mantra:
Introduce a Sanskrit mantra like OM or use positive affirmations such as “I AM” mantras. 💖

👌 Mudra:
Incorporate mudras, symbolic hand gestures in yoga, to enhance focus. Mudras and mantras can be practiced together. ✌️

🛌 Yoga Nidra/Body Scan:
Guide children through Yoga Nidra or a body scan, both of which promote deep relaxation and awareness. 😌💤

Before moving into savasana, our final yoga pose, it’s encouraged to have a few activities planned to ease into a restful savasana. You don’t want to go from 100 to zero (for example, transitioning from a wild game of Freeze Yoga directly into Savasana). Engaging in calming activities helps set the mood for relaxation and allows the children to come down from a heightened state. These moments of tranquility prepare their minds and bodies, making the transition to Savasana much smoother and more enjoyable.

We’ve all experienced it—class is flowing smoothly, and then suddenly, it’s not!😫 One of the biggest differences between teaching children and adults is managing the tricky behaviors that arise in a room full of kids (adults can be challenging too, in their own ways😜).

One of my favorite books to recommend to new instructors is “How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk” by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. Many of these concepts come directly from this insightful book.

Accept Feelings, Limit Actions: Above all, children want to be heard and have their feelings validated (and honestly, we all do). While it’s important to acknowledge their emotions, we also need to set boundaries on disruptive actions during class.

Affirmative Language: Words carry a vibration. Instead of focusing on what children shouldn’t do, we can shift our language to express what we want them to do. For example, instead of saying, “Stop jumping,” try “Let’s find our yoga bodies.” This simple change often leads to more positive behaviors.

Let Children Make Choices: Empowering children by giving them choices fosters confidence and independence. Just ensure that all options are acceptable to you.

Roles: Children often adopt certain roles, which can lead to predictable behaviors. Encourage them to explore different roles—such as making the class clown the leader—allowing them to see themselves in a new light.

What are some of your favorite tactics for handling challenging behavior in your classes?

When I started teaching yoga to kids 18 years ago, people were pretty skeptical. I heard it all: “It’s a gimmick,” “Kids can’t do yoga,” and of course, “Oh, how cute.”😏

The truth is, we teach children so many skills at a young age, from sports to playing instruments to learning new languages. Why wouldn’t we also teach them how to connect their bodies, minds, and hearts?

So the next time someone asks, “Can kids really do yoga?” your answer is a confident YES. 🌈🧘‍♀️💜🧡

Back-to-school season can stir up lots of big feelings (for both parents and kids) -nerves, excitement, and everything in between. 💜🧡

If your child is feeling anxious, here are 4 simple ways to help ease the transition:
✨ Acknowledge their feelings
✨ Create grounding routines
✨ Notice the body’s signals
✨ Offer a calming tool (like the Invisible String reminder that they’re always connected to you 💫)

Which of these feels most supportive for your family right now?

I've been in the children's yoga world for over 17 years and have learned a lot through trial and error and my own mistakes. A few years into teaching I knew if I wanted to grow and scale I had to move beyond teaching only classes as well as teaching all of the classes myself.

If you are looking to grow and scale take a look through these slides and notice if you are putting into practice any of the suggestions. What have you found most helpful in terms of growing your business👇? 💜🧡

Often, a kids’ yoga class takes place outside of a traditional studio, which means getting creative with props! Everyday items can provide the support needed for different poses:

📚 Books – If you’re teaching in a school, sturdy textbooks can work as makeshift yoga blocks.
🧥 Puffy Jackets – Roll one up to replace a bolster for a cozy restorative pose.
🧦 Belts or Socks – Need a little extra reach in a stretch? A belt or even a sock can provide an easeful grip.

Thinking outside the box makes yoga more accessible and fun for kids! Have you ever used a creative prop in class? Share below! ⬇️

When I first entered the yoga world, I wasn’t exactly welcomed with open arms.

There were whispers. Closed doors. People who made it clear I wasn’t “part of the club.”

I never had a mentor. No one showed me how to build a business or how to confidently lead a room full of wiggly, wonderful kids.

I had to figure it out on my own and for a long time, I thought that’s just how it was.

But now I know better.

✨ There’s room for all of us.
✨ When women support women, we all rise.
✨ And the more of us sharing yoga with kids, the more children who benefit.

That’s why I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned from teaching strategies to scheduling tips to the activities kids come back for week after week.

Divine play, or Lila (लिला) in Sanskrit, is the joyful, creative flow that unfolds in yoga practice. It’s the spirit of exploration and fun, especially when teaching kids yoga! 🌟 Here’s how we can bring Lila into our classes: 🎨 Props transform a simple pose into a playful adventure. Use scarves, blocks, or stuffed animals to spark imagination and make learning fun! 🎶 Music enhances the playful energy, guiding children through their movements with rhythmic beats that help them connect to their bodies and stay engaged. 🌈 Movement is the ultimate path to play. Let kids express themselves through dance-like flows, animal poses, or partner stretches, creating a space where they feel free to explore and have fun. Lila isn’t just a practice, it’s an experience of joy and connection. 🌻
