Suzanne Stolzberg Health and Wellness

Suzanne Stolzberg Health and Wellness I am about experiencing consciousness consciously. Suzanne Stolzberg, MSTOM, L.Ac., grew up in Western Massachusetts in the lush mountains of Berkshire County.

Her Mom was considered a health nut and her Dad a bonafide master gardener. From a very young age they instilled in her the importance of connecting with nature through yoga, gardening, and a healthy organic diet. This provided a solid foundation from which she enjoyed three decades of urban life in New York City and one decade in Barcelona, Spain. Both cities are a stark difference from the natural backdrop of her hometown, and it is this dichotomy that helped stimulate her interest in bringing the awareness of nature to those living in an urban environment. East Asian Medicine is based on the attunement with nature and its cyclical beauty. The ancient Chinese texts discuss how our interaction with nature and social environments or “Tian Xia” (everything under heaven), is undoubtedly a reflection of our physical and psycho-emotional health. In essence, how we understand the natural world will help us better understand our body, mind, health, and disease. Within these texts our body is looked at as a microcosm of everything around us. This is the Chinese expression of the hermetic principle we see in Western mysticism, “as above, so below.” These philosophies have crystallized Suzanne’s vision and have supported the forward momentum of her investigation into the body’s innate capacity to heal itself. It is her belief that being in balance with nature and moving fluidly through seasonal and diurnal change brings one into attunement with their place in the universe.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE CLOUDS ROLL IN?

Yesterday was one of those days—I got some lousy news that I thought would really affect my business and my life, but then I said—NO this will not affect my mind. Today is luscious and it will continue to shine.

I have recently moved into a beautiful office suite and set up my very own acupuncture practice AS I HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF…serene, simple, and elegant. Each day is stress free and the flow is smooth and relaxed. So yesterday, just as I was about to start another treatment I saw my phone ring from an important business connection. The words were not what I wanted to hear, but after I got over the initial disappointment, I asked myself--how can I use this to help others? And trust me, I am not being all Pollyanna and saying I am not angry...I am going to take this news and punch it in the face. I am going to prove that I don’t need that business to help me at all. I am going to get creative and find a way to help others work through disappointment as I tackle this challenge. I will simply make my business stronger, more resilient, and able to weather any storm. And just as I decided to change my mindset and flip the disappointment to drive, my incredibly talented patient texted me this photo of his post-acupuncture run by the river. He saw the beauty and so can I.

So goodbye clouds—the sun and moon are here to stay!

DO YOU FEEL LIKE A FRAUD?

That question has been bouncing around the block lately. I have had many conversations with highly gifted artists, doctors, and holistic practitioners who routinely question their worth. The pursuit of more knowledge, training, and information is routinely chased in order to appease a nagging sense of lack. The crazy thing is…these conversations are with folks who are highly successful--doctors with full schedules and artists on Broadway!

It’s one thing to continue learning, but it’s another to question our worth. When will the inner knowing outshine the doubt? The only upside to these conversations is I that get to see I am not alone in my humanness and self-critique.

The truth is--we are all given exactly what we need to make art, heal ourselves, and help the world be a more peaceful place. We don’t need to escape into more stuff.

When I quiet down and stop trying to make things happen, the conflict dissolves and love shows up. The fraudulent feelings disappear, and the artist in me reaches for just the right expression to touch another heart. I feel the world stabilize, and a warm wash of acceptance heals my aches and pains.

All the judgment, fear, and blame dissolves as the gaze of the guru lights my path and I find a way to carry on. Thank you Ramesh S. Balsekar for endlessly reminding me that I don’t need to do anything at all.

BEING IN THE MOMENT

You know those moments when the dust settles and the city shines through. When you are inside way too long and emerge to find a glistening world at your fingertips. You think…it’s not so bad—this crazy place. The feeling is momentary, fleeting, and altogether breathtaking. I luxuriate in it when it happens. When I see art folded into the sidewalk, love beating softly under a winter puffer jacket, and trees dreaming of spring. Winter can be rough for us weathered New Yorkers, but we lean in and make it work.

It is a time of reflection, self-care, and hibernation. We fight it because there is a humming city just outside our windows. Getting down to the business of wintertime and working hard just feels lonely. I often lose sight of having fun in the cold weather. I gripe and grumble about the wet and wind, but today I saw a different NYC.

It was raining and I went for a run, it was cold and I walked the dog, it was windy and I went to the farmer’s market. A normal Saturday, but I saw the vibrance. It had to do with how I started my day…I meditated, deeply, profoundly, and with a steady breath. Each time I have the discipline to take care of my mind, my body follows. I found the key to a lovely winter day.

If you are looking for a way to find your winter groove, perhaps a simple commitment to a daily practice will do the trick. And if you need some motivation don’t hesitate to contact me at www.acuspira.com.

How many times have you said to yourself – I AM NOT ENOUGH.

It’s crazy talk. I just sat with a patient today who is a brilliant computer specialist, and he wonders if he can break out on his own and become an entrepreneur. He has the capacity to fix any computer problem, but he doubts his abilities. He thinks he needs more technical training, and does not realize that his instincts and intuition are phenomenal and are put in place to guide him.

Perhaps it will take a good night’s sleep to come up with the answers, but his answers will be the creative ones, the ones that change people’s lives, not the safe school-book-earned monotony.

Why do we doubt or abilities?

We are brainwashed into thinking we need to accumulate more to be enough, but we are born with innate training—its called DNA. It is always there, pushing us, begging us to change things up, to try a new approach, to live with uncertainty.

Give the negative voice the boot and sink into your inner wisdom.

Figure out how you roll and trust it! It’s ok, consciousness gives us exactly what we need. And what we need is to create a vacuum, to put ourselves in positions of uncertainty so we are pushed to our limits and explore our innate creativity.

It’s time…take your golden ring and wear it!

Each holiday season do you wait for January 2nd and the relief from it all?

I have decided that this is going to be the best holiday I have ever spent in NYC. It shall be sparkly and bright--filled with friendships and peace.

In gratitude:

I thank the universe for blessing me with so many powerful guides and teachers. I give thanks to my Guru, Ramesh S. Balsekar, who weaves a golden string of light through my life on a daily basis. When I am in terrible pain, feeling low, and don’t know where to turn, I turn to his photo and pray.
I am heard.

When my health falters and I don't know how to nourish myself, I think of Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez.
I am fed.

When the pain gets uncomfortable, I turn on some music and bring David Elliot’s breathwork into my body.
I am healed.

When my heart closes shut and I have no strength left, I look into the eyes of my animal guide, my lovely dog Arjuna.
I am loved.

The waves never stop and riding them is my schoolroom.

HAPPY GOLDEN HOLIDAYS

If you or someone you know is ready to take control of their health and create the life they really want, I'm here for you! Feel free to call me at 212 877 8118 or book a holiday treatment at www.acuspira.com.

Finding Your Creativity: Acupuncture a Personal Investigation.

Living and working in New York City brings up a lot of emotions. It is a very fast place, and tensions have a tendency to run high and spill over into anger and aggression. This is not to say there is a lack of excitement, fun, joy, and happiness, but as an acupuncturist I am brought to the truth about how my patients feel and it is usually stressed and tired. Many are frustrated because they work at jobs they dislike in order to maintain the lifestyle of an urban giant. Through our process of distressing, decompressing, and letting go, we often uncover sparkling gems of creative beauty.

This happened last week and it burst my heart open. I asked a patient who is not in love with his lucrative job, if he had any creative outlets. He went silent, and eventually said, “I am thinking of learning the piano”…more silence, then came “Well I take photos, and my Mom really likes them.” I asked him to text me some. When they popped up in my messages, I was completely blown away. They were outstanding. Stupendous. Creative. I asked him if I could post them because they need to be appreciated and enjoyed. He agreed.

The power of acupuncture never ceases to impress me—it can heal our physical body, but it also works on a more subtle energetic body. It digs deep into the layers of fear, worry, and trauma, and has the potential to release them. The conversation I had with this patient was the culmination of a few months of acupuncture treatments, herbal therapy, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes. This one simple conversation uncorked some of his creative potential. Perhaps he will never take another photo, or perhaps he will take thousands, but knowing he is more than his paycheck is priceless.

I am most interested in his investigation into the truth of who he is--pure creative potential! Consciousness graces us all with our own special brand of creativity and once we allow it to inhabit our lives, a dull job can shine, and daily living can become meaningful. Extending a hand to our creative selves then becomes our lifeline.

ACUPUNCTURE CASE STUDY: The Wart That Went Away

Patient arrives unhappy, depleted, and at her wits’ end. A rambunctious wart keeps returning after being surgically removed FIVE TIMES! She is willing to try anything.

I look at her as a WHOLE PERSON—not just an index finger.

Adrenal fatigue and digestive issues lay at the core of her presentation. In Chinese medicine we look at patterns to begin the process of diagnosis and treatment, and her pattern is far from any textbook presentation that discusses warts.

We talk, she laughs, she cries, she takes a few deep breaths, and gives herself some space to breathe—now her symptoms have the room to teach us what we need to know.

With the help of acupuncture, Chinese herbs, homeopathic remedies, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle modifications her transformation is impeccable. We love it all, then let it go.
