From sneezing fits to itchy eyes, pollen and other allergens can disrupt your day—but smart prevention can make all the difference.

“Managing seasonal allergies isn’t just about comfort—it’s about protecting your respiratory health. Left untreated, allergies can lead to chronic sinus issues or worsen asthma,” says Joseph Feldman, MD, FACEP, Medical Director of Mount Sinai Doctors–Urgent Care.

So don’t wait for allergy symptoms to strike—prepare and prevent. If you’re taking any allergy-related medications like nasal sprays, over-the-counter pills, or topical creams, you should contact your primary care provider or visit Mount Sinai Doctors-Urgent Care, conveniently located on the Upper West Side at 638 Columbus Avenue, for advice on these medications: https://bit.ly/3FMPrOQ

Think of seasonal eating as nature giving us exactly what we need at exactly the right time!

Eating produce that is in season naturally introduces food variety and promotes eating more whole, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains. Seasonally driven eating is also often more dense in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Not to mention, it also beneficial for the environment as it reduces food.

So this summer, try visiting local food markets and using seasonal produce guides like this one: https://bit.ly/44MSijl

When it comes to sunblock versus sunscreen, knowing the difference and why it matters is key to skin health. It’s true, both protect your skin from harmful UV rays, but they work differently.

“Whether you choose sunblock or sunscreen, the most important thing is consistency. Unprotected sun exposure increases your risk of skin cancer, premature aging, and irreversible skin damage,” says Joseph Feldman, MD, FACEP, Medical Director of Mount Sinai Doctors–Urgent Care.

So, how do they differ? Sunblock acts as a physical barrier, sitting on the skin’s surface to reflect UV rays. It often contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide—ideal for sensitive skin and prolonged outdoor exposure. And sunscreen is a chemical formula that absorbs UV rays before they pe*****te your skin. It’s typically lighter and better for daily use under makeup or during brief sun exposure. In any case, if you are sweating or going in water, these products should be reapplied many times during the day. For sunscreen users, the higher the SPF, the more protection you will have, and for children (particularly under age 12), you should be using a sunscreen with zinc oxide.

If you’re experiencing any sun-related issues, visit Mount Sinai Doctors-Urgent Care, conveniently located on the Upper West Side at 638 Columbus Avenue.

Hydration doesn’t have to be boring—think fruit-infused water, electrolytes, and hydrating snacks like cucumber and melon.

Small shifts like these to your beverage choices can boost energy, digestion, and recovery all long. Make it a habit, not a hassle!

“Whether you’re out in the summer heat or hitting the gym, staying hydrated is key to staying healthy and energized,” says Joseph Feldman, MD, FACEP, Medical Director of Mount Sinai Doctors–Urgent Care. “And hydrate with fluids with electrolytes to replace the electrolytes you lose in your sweat as well.”

Dehydration can sneak up on you, especially during physical activity. So why does matter? It helps regulate your body temperature, keeps your joints lubricated, supports muscle function and recovery, and even aids in digestion and nutrient transport.

“You should drink between 11.5 cups per day and 15.5 cups per day, depending on your size and activity level,” adds Dr. Feldman. So don’t wait until you’re thirsty—by then, dehydration has already started.

If you’re experiencing any heat-related issues, visit Mount Sinai Doctors-Urgent Care, conveniently located on the Upper West Side at 638 Columbus Avenue.
