Serious mental illness affects over thirty million people in the United States each year. The stigma, rejection, and isolation that accompany these conditions prevent people from forming the relationships they need to grow socially and emotionally. Fountain House reduces the devastating social impact of mental illness. Every day hundreds of members choose to come to Fountain House to contribute their talents, learn new skills, access opportunities, and forge friendships. Our innovative working community is both our method and our outcome. As partners, members and staff operate successful employment, education, wellness, and housing programs and perform all the functions that keep our community going, such as advocacy, communications, food preparation, and administrative support. Our activities and programs are designed to provide opportunities and, at the same time, produce the desire and confidence to pursue them. Working together, we create a culture that transforms lives. Members experience a reduced sense of isolation and increased fulfillment, purpose, and stability – vital steps toward mental health.

Peiyu, Summer, and Sister Agnes completed The Fountain House Michael Walther Executive Fellowship today! We'll miss them dearly, but we're excited to see what these dynamic clubhouse leaders will do next!

Fellows were preparing for the final presentation/ graduation! We will be presenting to donors, board members and some unit leaders worked with us. Oh! 9 months went by so quickly!

Friends, our Fellowship is wrapping up this week! Please wish us luck as we make our final presentation to the Walther family (funders of the Fellowship), Board, members, and staff of Fountain House this afternoon about what we learned and how we grew and developed while here.

**But don't worry, this won't be the last you hear from us! We have one or two more projects to finish up and tell you about before Friday and over the next couple weeks we'll be updating you on a few past events and activities we missed posting about in the end-of-fellowship crunch time. And we'll keep you updated on our next steps when we all go back home.

Thanks for supporting us!

Summer and Peiyu have been volunteering at the New York Clubhouse Coalition (Clubhouse New York) during the Fellowship to learn how coalition builds the broader community beyond individual clubhouse. We've been visiting clubhouses to know more about individual club. This is a quote from our visit to Citiview Connections Clubhouse in Long Island City.

“When I first came here I came here with no spirit at all. Individual spirits of member rub off on each other. When you interact you feel that spirit and it will enlighten you on the inside. I came here with no aspirations, coming here someone else’s spirit got inside me and now I’m all over this place. This is my birth place when I died and came back to life.”

I had an awesome opportunity this week presenting at the 2013 Michigan Clubhouse Conference in Lansing, MI. I was really honored to be asked to speak on the opening plenary as well as three other workshops.

In addition to being able to catch up with old friends and stellar colleagues from Michigan, I was lucky enough to share the microphone with some pretty amazing Clubhouse folk from out-of-state. It's not every day you get to present along-side Jack Yatsko (Clubhouse International), Jennifer Higginbotham and Pete Estrader (Independence Center), and Larry Marshall (Sanford Clubhouse). What a great couple of days!
