I was thrilled to see the the New York Times included an article on somatic therapy in the therapy issue of its NYT Magazine. While the article focused on somatic experiencing, a specific form of therapy, it drew attention to an idea central to all forms of somatic therapy (of which yoga therapy is one): that the nervous system is affected by both information coming in from the mind and from the body and may be addressed, altered, and modulated both from the top down (working with the mind) and from the bottom up (working with the body).
Somatic therapy is surging, with the promise that true healing may reside in focusing on the physical rather than the mental.
