Kate Conroy, movement instructor and personal fitness trainer FGNA-certified Feldenkrais movement educator and ACE-certified personal fitness trainer Hello! I've presented on movement and memory at the FGNA conference.

I'm a movement and fitness instructor dedicated particularly to post-menopausal women's health. As a Feldenkrais practitioner, I've mentored trainees of all ages in functional integration. With complementary certification as an ACE trainer, I work with clients looking to achieve freedom and independence in daily living. This includes teaching movement with muscular conditioning to support injury prevention and fall recovery. I'm an advocate for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and other queer (LGBTQIA+) civil rights and cultural causes. I stand with Black Lives Matter, native American, and global indigenous rights.

"The three-day meeting was infused with an implicit understanding of what obesity is not: a personal failing. No presenter argued that humans collectively lost willpower around the 1980s, when obesity rates took off, first in high-income countries‌, then in much of the rest of the world. Not a single scientist said our genes changed in that short time. Laziness, gluttony‌‌ and sloth were not referred to as obesity’s helpers. In stark contrast to a prevailing societal view of obesity, which assumes people have full control over their body size, they didn’t blame individuals for their condition, the same way we don’t blame people suffering from the effects of undernutrition, like stunting and wasting."

Rates of obesity won’t budge as long as society views it as a personal issue.

Out of concern for the contractility of COVID-19 I suspended my in-person practice back in March. I don't have immediate plans for online sessions. During this downtime I'm working on an additional certification, which will complement my Feldenkrais offerings. I look forward to sharing it with you once I've successfully completed the coursework. I miss you!
