Constipation: Contrary to popular belief, we should empty our bowels not once but two or three times a day. A healthy stool should break up easily and be no strain to pass. By these criteria, a large majority of people suffer from constipation. A high-fiber diet will help, as will a reduction in meat and milk products. Exercise is crucial, as it strengthens the abdominal muscles. Vitamin B1 and E help, while vitamin c may loosen the bowels. A nonirritant laxative, fructo-oligosaccharides powder, helps relieve severe constipation.

Recommendation: eat high fiber foods. Drink at least 1 3/4 pints of water a day, preferably between meals. Reduce your consumption of meat and milk products. Include oats and prune in your diet, as well as flaxseeds, which can be ground and sprinkled on food. Supplements: 2 X multivitamin and multimineral, 3 x vitamin C 1000mg, digestive enzymes or probiotics with each meal.

A Guide to Storing Supplements:
Supplements do not last forever; their potency gradually diminishes over a period of time. Unopened, vitamins generally last for two to three years. Opened, they generally last for about one year. Mineral supplements last longer, and usually it is not the minerals themselves that go bad -it is the other substances in the supplement, such as the chelating agents, which spoil. As a safe guard, its best to buy supplements with an expiration date.

Supplements should be stored in a cool dry, dark place. The refrigerator usually has a lot of moister in it, and is quite cold, which could affect certain vitamins, so i don't recommend this as a storage place. Many people keep their supplements on top of the refrigerator; however this location is generally too warm. A room temperature closet is usually fine.

Many people transfer their supplements to smaller, more convenient container for work and travel. If the container is opaque and close tightly, supplements can be stored in them for several months without losing much of their potency
