Is it possible for partners to coexist when one is in eating disorder recovery while the other still engages in diet culture behaviors “for their health”?
It’s not easy, especially with the rise in GLP-1 use, but in this podcast clip, Melainie Rogers (she/her) and Sam Previte (she/her) from Find Food Freedom discuss the importance of having honest conversations about these differences.
Eating disorder recovery looks different for everyone.
In this podcast clip, BALANCE Founder & CEO Melainie Rogers (she/her) joins Find Food Freedom host Sam Previte (she/her) to discuss how partners or loved ones can view progress in someone’s recovery from disordered eating or an eating disorder.
Melainie also shares how she views progress through the shifts in a client’s behaviors over time.
Diet culture talk is so normalized that many people don’t realize they are engaging in it.
In her podcast episode with Sam Pervite, the host of Find Food Freedom, our Founder & CEO Melainie Rogers suggests how a journaling exercise can help make people more aware of the diet culture language they used.

For 25 years, Melainie Rogers has been an advocate for body acceptance and the belief that health exists at every size.
In her NY1 interview with Shannan Ferry, she shares why it’s disappointing to see GLP-1 medications centered around appearance, and why so many still feel pressured to look a certain way.
GLP-1 medications aren’t a quick fix. They are a lifelong commitment.
In her interview with Shannan Ferry of Spectrum News NY1, our Founder & CEO, Melainie Rogers, explains why she’d like to see:
✔️ Registered dietitians working with clients, similar to bariatric surgery care
✔️ More education so people fully understand the long-term impact of these medications
GLP-1 medications are often praised for their benefits, but they can also reduce appetite to the point of malnutrition.
In her interview with Shannan Ferry from NY1, our Founder & CEO Melainie Rogers shares why eating disorder screenings and monitoring are so important before prescribing GLP-1 medications.
We’re so excited to be a sponsor of the New York National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) Care Fair this October! 🍁
The NYC Care Fair brings together inspiring voices, vital mental health resources, and fun activities for all ages — including gentle yoga, bracelet making, and a dance performance.

🎬 Last month, our Founder & CEO, Melainie Rogers (she/her), spoke with NY1 Anchor Shannan Ferry about eating disorders, GLP-1 medications, and athletes like Serena Williams who have shared openly about their experiences with these medications.
In this clip, Melainie and Shannan explore how GLP-1 medications have become part of mainstream conversations and the impact this can have on those struggling with eating disorders or working toward recovery.
We’re excited to share highlights from Melainie’s interview over the next few weeks.

BALANCE eating disorder treatment center is dedicated to treating the spectrum of eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive overeating and other disordered eating behaviors and body image issues. Through our array of services, we offer treatment for women, men, LGBTQAI and adolescents and provide all levels of outpatient care.
What distinguishes BALANCE from other programs is our ability to offer customized treatment to each individual client, as we understand that every client is unique and responds to treatment differently. We maintain a limited group size for each of our programs to allow for significantly more individualized attention and thus more effective treatment.
We serve clients with a variety of treatment needs: we serve those who require intensive day treatment as a natural step-down following a course of residential care and those who may benefit from augmenting their existing individual treatment plan with complementary programs and services. We offer a comprehensive continuum of care to any individual seeking outpatient treatment for an eating disorder.
At BALANCE we believe in treating the whole person.
We recognize that recovery requires more than simply treating specific eating behaviors. Therefore, our programs utilize an integrative therapeutic approach that incorporates evidence-based treatments and is collaborative in nature.
The foundation of our approach is based on our nutritional philosophy of intuitive eating using the All Foods Fit Model. At BALANCE we employ a diversity of treatment modalities to help clients develop a neutral and peaceful relationship with food, body acceptance and positive self-esteem.
Our programs incorporate: relational psychotherapy; behavioral therapies (CBT, DBT); expressive therapies (art, drama & movement), yoga and mindfulness; experiential therapy; meal support; family therapy groups; and individual treatment.
Our goal is to help our clients not only reduce symptoms but also move toward a more harmonious relationship with food and their bodies.
