Health is a dynamic state of equilibrium achieved through the body’s self-regulating processes. Body systems are designed to maintain stability while adjusting and adapting to continuously changing conditions. In Chinese medicine, this state of health is called balance. In Western medicine, it is called homeostasis.
Traditional Chinese medicine is unique because it takes into account each person as a whole, including mental and emotional states as well as the function and interconnection of all organ systems. Symptoms are viewed as part of a “pattern of disharmony.” In other words, while treating a chief complaint, practitioners of Chinese medicine will also treat the reason it occurred in the first place. As symptoms alleviate, one’s overall health will also improve.
My goal is to treat your symptoms by improving your health. This is what your body is already doing every day. I love this medicine because we do not cover up symptoms; we help your body to function optimally, so that while your health improves your chief complaints will naturally disappear. Your body already knows everything it needs to heal. Sometimes it just needs a little help.
