I love performing surgical scar revisions because it is a one step solution that improves all aspects of an unsightly scar. This is a patient of mine who had a mole surgically removed at a plastic surgeon’s office but was unhappy with the aesthetic outcome. I performed a surgical scar revision, and the scar is now barely perceptible at 4 months after surgery. While I also perform many noninvasive scar treatments, surgical scar revision remains my most powerful tool when dealing with specific scars that in my experience will not improve as significantly with other modalities.

The FDA, which previously has not approved any new sunscreen actives since 1999, recently announced that they will consider adding a new broad spectrum sunscreen active Bemotrizinol to out current approved sunscreen ingredient list. This means potentially better sunscreen for us in the near future!

Moles located on the nose can make a significant visual impact. Shown here is a beautiful patient of mine who wanted to remove her childhood mole, but who was told by multiple doctors, including plastic surgeons, that removal would not be possible without distortion of the nose and scarring. I used a combination of surgical shave and laser to remove her mole with imperceptible scarring and no distortion to her nose.
