Hamilton-Madison House is a non-profit settlement house established in 1898 to improve the quality of life for NYC. Located in Chinatown/Lower East Side Two Bridges neighborhoods, we foster the well-being of vulnerable populations including the elderly, children, the ill and handicapped, new immigrants and refugees and the unemployed. Hamilton-Madison House delivers critical, timely and culturally appropriate services for all stages of life.

This week, Congresswoman Grace Meng visited our Supportive Housing site in her district and spoke with the staff and residents.

We provide housing for our neighbors with severe and persistent mental illness, so that they may live independently and with dignity. Our Queens site features bilingual staff and a Korean outpatient clinic.

The support of our local representatives is crucial to addressing the needs of our residents. Thank you to the Congresswoman for her visit!

Last week, our community celebrated Lunar New Year across different older adult centers and NORCs (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities). Our older adults put on performances, participated in tea ceremonies, and enjoyed festive treats. Together, we welcomed the year of the Fire Horse, which brings with it bold ambition and fiery passion.

Recently, our Smith NORC and LIFT youth and older adults enjoyed a tremendous showcase of R&B and classic hits to celebrate Black History Month! Special thank you to the performers and our partners at Concerts in Motion for making this possible. We wish you a happy Black History Month here at HMH! 🎶

Yesterday, our PROS program celebrated Lunar New Year. Our members enjoyed lunch and snacks, sang their hearts out at karaoke, and received recognition for their amazing participation and progress this year. Shout out to our PROS staff, who are dedicated to building relationships with the members and helping them reach their personal goals. In the year of the Fire Horse, we wish you passion and success in all your pursuits!

What a night to remember! Last week, we hosted our 22nd Annual Hamilton-Madison House Gala, honoring our mission and the people who represent it. We recognized Michael Logan, Michael Geary, and Willie Randolph for their dedication to our community and beyond.

We are grateful for those who attended and contributed. In total, we raised over $270k, which will go directly to our programs providing relief to children, youths, and older adults in need, as well as those struggling with mental illness. This is a historic total for our Gala, and we could not have done it without you!

Our centers serve as spaces to keep warm during this cold streak, which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our collaborators. Stay cozy and keep an eye out for our most vulnerable community members this winter ❄️⛄

The CONNECT team at 253 South Street will be facilitating a weekly open art studio to the community. This is an ongoing, weekly group that aims to provide a safe environment for creative and emotional expression, while also promoting a sense of relaxation and community belonging. Within the time period, participants are invited to join us, set intentions, create freely (with supportive prompts if preferred), and share/ witness. A licensed creative arts therapist will be present in every session. No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. 🎨
