Healing TREE (Trauma Resources, Education & Entertainment) advocates healing from abuse and trauma rather than coping with the symptoms, in order to transform lives and, ultimately, society. We achieve this by providing trauma-focused resources and education and by producing and partnering with relevant film, television, and theatre, empowering the social change necessary to create a healing movement. We’re proud to announce that LGBTQIA+ clinicians now qualify for our Brainspotting Therapy Training Scholarships!

We, along with our generous trainers — Susan Pinco, MSSW, PHD, BCD and Deb Antinori, MA, LPC, FT, RDT, who have provided full scholarships for BIPOC therapists in the Healing TREE community since 2022 — acknowledge the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ clinicians are facing. We are excited to be able to now offer our Clinician Scholarships for Brainspotting Therapy Online Training to this community. BIPOC clinicians of course still qualify!

If you are a LGBTQIA+ or BIPOC clinician who hasn’t already filled out our Scholarship Application, please do so TODAY (link in bio and below)! The Kosair for Kids Face It Movement is built on the action of many towards one big goal: to end child abuse in the Commonwealth. Through statewide community partnerships, Face It aims to drive individuals to action by providing clear ways they can engage in child abuse and neglect prevention.

The Face It Movement partners include child- and family-serving organizations, schools, health care facilities, faith-based centers, small businesses, state agencies, and other advocacy and community-based nonprofits. Partners from across Kentucky participate in work teams in order to collaborate with other partner organizations, galvanize caring community members to join the efforts, and advocate for policy and practice solutions
necessary to end child abuse.

Our Story

Healing TREE was founded in 2014 by Marissa Ghavami, Debbie Ghavami and Bruce Hardy, PhD. It was established in direct response to a vast need that Marissa and her co-founders saw during Marissa’s own healing journey after surviving a one-on-one cult and experiencing various forms of abuse. After figuring out a way to get Marissa out of the abusive situation, her mother Debbie struggled to find help for her daughter. Marissa was diagnosed with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) and had endured total brainwashing. With the help of Dr. Hardy, and after countless hours of research, Debbie was finally able to find the proper resources and treatment models necessary that would allow Marissa to make a full recovery.

While Marissa was fortunate to be given the proper resources and treatment and have the support necessary to pursue them, she discovered that a misunderstanding of abuse and trauma in all of their forms was common among the public and professionals alike, preventing countless others from getting the help they need. She further learned that this lack of understanding was incredibly harmful to society as a whole and became determined to do something about it. She set out to create Healing TREE, an organization which addresses all of the obstacles she found during her healing journey, making the process easier for others and paving the way for real change. With the belief that every person deserves to live a life free of trauma and its devastating effects, whether or not they have the resources and support readily available to them, Healing TREE was created.
