We often joke about the 4th trimester but there's an underlying realness to it.

Just because the baby is here doesn’t mean the hard part is over.

The 4th trimester (the first 3 months postpartum) can be raw, exhausting, and often overlooked. The sleepless nights, hormonal shifts, identity changes, physical healing, and emotional ups and downs can feel relentless. And yet, so many new moms suffer in silence thinking it’s just them.

We’re so grateful to for showing the very real (and very relatable) side of early motherhood.

At The Motherhood Center, we talk about the 4th trimester a lot, because that’s when many moms experience symptoms of PMADs (Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders), like postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and more. We offer everything from free support groups to therapy and day program to meet you exactly where you are.

Let’s normalize this chapter. Let’s support new moms. Let’s talk about it.

These numbers aren’t just statistics, they’re signals.

📊 They show us when birthing people are most at risk.
💔 They reveal just how often symptoms go unnoticed or untreated.
⏰ They remind us that maternal mental health doesn’t follow a neat timeline, and that support shouldn’t end at six weeks postpartum.

These stats, shared by , highlight the urgency of supporting birthing people throughout the entire perinatal period, not just in the early days. But too often, they’re minimized, misunderstood, or missed entirely.

Let this post serve as a reminder:
🌱 Healing is possible.
📣 Screening matters.
🤝 Support saves lives.

“You’re doing such a good job.”

Words that feel small, until they come from the person who sees it all.

During the perinatal period, so much changes. Hormones, identity, responsibilities, sleep, relationships. It’s one of the most emotionally and logistically demanding times of life, and yet it’s often when couples are left to “figure it out” on their own.

This clip from episode stood out because it highlights just how important the little moments of support can be from a partner, especially during the perinatal period.

At The Motherhood Center, we offer couples therapy designed specifically for the perinatal journey, because navigating this season requires different tools than other stages of life. From communication breakdowns to the invisible mental load to the need for emotional validation, our therapists help partners reconnect and show up for each other in meaningful ways.

Because when a mom feels supported, the whole family feels the impact. 💞

It might not just be exhaustion.
Or stress.
Or “normal” new parenthood.
It could be a PMAD, and you’re not alone.

Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) often show up in ways that get dismissed or misinterpreted:
😡 Irritability mistaken for personality changes
😴 Exhaustion chalked up to sleepless nights
😶 Numbness confused with being “overwhelmed”
😓 Intrusive thoughts hidden out of fear or shame

These signs deserve attention, not dismissal.

At The Motherhood Center, we specialize in helping new and expecting parents get the support they need — whether that’s therapy, psychiatric care, or a safe space to talk.

It's no secret...

💬 “We need more community.”

When it comes to maternal mental health, there’s power in sharing your story. In this clip, Jacqueline reminds us that speaking up about recovery, shedding shame, and connecting with others is how we begin to build the community we all deserve.

Let’s normalize the conversation, for ourselves, and for every parent who needs to know they’re not alone. 💛

You can love your baby and want space.
Feel grateful and overwhelmed.
Be filled with joy and rage.

This is ambivalence, and it’s a totally normal part of motherhood.

But too often, it’s left out of the conversation, leaving parents to wonder if they’re doing something wrong.

In one of our blog posts, we explore why ambivalence shows up during the perinatal period, how it can impact mental health, and why talking about it matters.

Even world-renowned athletes can struggle with postpartum mental health. 💬

In a recent interview, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka opened up about her experience with “extremely bad” postpartum depression after giving birth to her daughter, Shai.

“I felt like a shell of myself… Everyone else was living in color, but my world was stuck in gray.” (via Yahoo Sports & Glamour)

Even with mental health awareness and years of emotional work behind her, Naomi still faced the weight of postpartum depression, reminding us that this doesn’t happen because you’re not strong. It happens because you’re human.

At The Motherhood Center, we hear stories like this every day, from people of all backgrounds, professions, and identities. The mental health journey in pregnancy and postpartum is complex, and no one should navigate it alone.

We provide:
🧠 Perinatal psychiatry & therapy
👶 Mother-baby bonding support
💬 A safe space to talk about rage, grief, anxiety, and scary thoughts, without judgment

If you’re struggling, or know someone who is, there is help. There is hope.

“Grief looks different for everyone. Sometimes one partner has to be strong while the other falls apart… and then you switch. That’s why they’re called partners.” 💔💛

Reposting this powerful moment from featuring and .bouff, who bravely share their experience navigating pregnancy after loss.

At The Motherhood Center, we see this every day. Couples trying to stay connected while holding unimaginable emotional weight. Whether it’s fertility struggles, miscarriage, birth trauma, or PMADs, relationships are tested in deep, complex ways during the perinatal period.

Because it’s not just about surviving the hard parts, it’s about healing together.
