Laughter is one way to survive the postpartum period… but having the right support is even better.

In the perinatal period (pregnancy through the first year after birth), relationships are under unique stress—sleep deprivation, identity shifts, hormonal changes, and the sheer overwhelm of new parenthood can impact both partners.

That’s where perinatal mental health experts make a difference. Unlike general therapists, we specialize in the challenges specific to this time, helping couples navigate communication breakdowns, emotional ups and downs, and the transition to parenthood together.

Couples therapy in the perinatal period isn’t just about fixing problems, it’s about strengthening your partnership and family for the journey ahead.

You don’t have to carry this alone, and you don’t have to pretend you’re okay when you’re not. At The Motherhood Center, we see you. And we’re here to help you move through the shame and toward healing. We treat you and your whole family.

This is your sign and reminder to check on your mom friends! 💛

Thank you for this meaningful reminder.

When a baby arrives, all eyes and energy often shift to the newborn, but the mom is healing, adjusting, and navigating a life-changing transition. Sometimes, she’s quietly struggling behind closed doors. And she may be struggling even more than you realize if she's experiencing a Perinatal Mood or Anxiety Disorder (PMAD).

And, don't just ask her how she's doing. Ask her how she's ~really~ doing.

Offer a meal, a listening ear, or a simple “I’m here for you.” Because your check-in might be exactly what she needs.

If you or someone you love is struggling, visit our website, https://ow.ly/TaQv50WyROH, to learn more. 💛

You are not alone if early motherhood hasn’t felt “blissful.”

The pressure to feel grateful, joyful, or instantly fulfilled after having a baby can make so many new moms feel like something is wrong with them if they’re struggling. But the truth is: becoming a mother is hard. And the story we’re told about how it should feel is rarely the whole picture.

Sometimes we just need that reminder. That what we're feeling is far more common than we even realize.

At The Motherhood Center, we provide compassionate care for every part of the perinatal experience. The messy, the beautiful, and everything in between.

💛 Call us at (212) 335-0034 to speak directly with an expert clinician who understands. We’re here to help.

An open letter to the FDA and a critical moment for maternal mental health.

The July 21, 2025 FDA Meeting on SSRIs in pregnancy left many of us in the maternal mental health field deeply concerned. The panel lacked representation from experts in perinatal psychiatry and failed to include the overwhelming body of research supporting the safe, effective use of SSRIs in pregnancy, as well as the dangerous consequences of untreated mental health conditions.

In response, Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance and Chamber of Mothers released a powerful open letter urging the FDA to take a balanced, evidence-based approach to this issue, and to include the voices of those who specialize in maternal mental health.

At The Motherhood Center, we stand behind this message. That’s why we’re sharing this video with our co-founder and reproductive psychiatrist Catherine Birndorf, MD, speaking directly to one of the biggest barriers to care: shame.

Because shame should never stand between someone and the treatment that could help them heal. And because maternal mental health care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Tag a friend who should see this, share this with your community, and join us in advocating for care that centers compassion, science, and the lived experience of mothers. You can sign the open letter here: https://ow.ly/3TwU50WCgEJ

What a beautiful and raw message from 💙

Thank you for sharing what so many feel but often keep to themselves.

Sometimes “I’m fine” is the easiest answer, even when it’s far from the truth. So many parents, especially during pregnancy and postpartum, wear a mask to hide the pain, fear, and exhaustion they carry.

But you don’t have to carry it alone. Your feelings are real. Your struggles are valid. And there is a community ready to listen, without judgment, and to walk alongside you toward healing. 💛

At The Motherhood Center, we provide a higher level of care for pregnancy and postpartum mental health challenges, offering expert treatment that meets you where you are. Call us today, 212-335-0034, to speak to a compassionate care coordinator who can guide you to the support you deserve.

This is your gentle reminder that self-care doesn't only mean bubble baths and alone time.

Sometimes, self-care is finally saying:
✨ “I need help.”
✨ “I can’t do this alone.”
✨ “I deserve to feel better than this.”

At The Motherhood Center, we believe real self-care means having access to the support you need, especially during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting. Whether it’s therapy, a support group, medication management, or simply a space where you can say “I’m not okay” without judgment, we’re here to help.

We see a lot of "self care" on social media, but it often doesn't look like this. So, today we’re reminding every mom and birthing person:
💛 Taking care of yourself is not selfish.
💛 Asking for help is not weakness.
💛 Your mental health matters and so do you.

Did you know this?

We focus a lot on the mom/birthing person after birth, which is incredibly important. But often, we aren't looking at the partner close enough.

Research shows that paternal postpartum depression often peaks 3–6 months after birth, exactly when many people think things are “getting easier.”

That’s also when maternal PPD symptoms may begin to ease, making a partner’s distress even easier to miss.

And yet, fathers and partners are deeply impacted by the perinatal period. Their mental health matters too.

At The Motherhood Center, we specialize in supporting the whole family. Our expert clinicians are trained in perinatal mental health and here to help, whether you’re the birthing parent or the partner.

If you think you or your partner may be struggling, don't question it. Your gut is usually right.

📞 Give us a call at 212-335-0034 to speak with a real expert clinician and get connected to care that understands.

Feeding your baby isn't always easy...

And it's not just about nutrition. It’s about mental health, identity, and support. 🍼💛

As we wrap up World Breastfeeding Week, it's important to discuss the statistics.

Nearly 90% of mothers experience challenges with feeding, often leading to anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. When feeding becomes about pressure instead of choice, it takes a toll on mental health.

At The Motherhood Center, we support every feeding journey, whether that’s breast, bottle, formula, or a combination, because mental health matters just as much as how your baby is fed.

✨ You deserve education without shame.
✨ You deserve support without stigma.
✨ You deserve care that honors your mental health first.

Your mental health is a vital part of your postpartum plan. 💛

“Dads are always okay…” right?

Not always. And too often, their pain hides behind silence.

We’re grateful to for speaking the truth so many are afraid to say out loud. Parenthood can be heavy, especially when you’re expected to be the “strong one.” But strength can also look like vulnerability, honesty, and asking for help.

At The Motherhood Center, we see partners. We see their silent struggles, their questions, their fears, and we offer space to process it all.

Whether you’re a dad, co-parent, or support person navigating this phase, our Dads & Partners Support Group is here to help you feel seen, heard, and supported.

You don’t have to carry this alone. 💙
