This week some students from PS 48 came to visit us at St.Francis Animal Hospital! Mrs.Cardinali and Ms.Grillo brought their Community Service group to see us and make a donation for the animals. We all had a great morning! The group told us about what they do and the contributions they have made to the community and the projects they have lined up for the future. And the girls got to hear from Dr.Brigande and ask questions about what it's like to become a Vet and some of the things that he does. Our Practice Manager Christine discussed some pet care related topics with the students and even showed them some very cool x-rays! Our office works closely with NYC Teens for Animals, a local rescue for cats and kittens. The group hand made blankets and presented them to Sophie, the founder of the rescue at our office. As a treat for the students, Sophie brought a little friend named "Kevin" to meet the girls and have a little play time! "Kevin" is one of the kitties available for adoption through the rescue. As another treat for the group, we had "Malfoy" and his handler/owner Anne Marie come to visit. "Malfoy" is a service dog assigned to Ann Marie from an organization called Canine Companions. Ann Marie spoke to the girls and told them all the ways that "Malfoy" helps her with her every day life and showed them some of the commands that he knows. Then they got to spend some "cuddle time" with him and ask lots of questions. To wrap up our visit we had some refreshments and each student got a goody bag. We hope the girls had as good of a time as we did, and learned a few things too. And if anyone is interested in adopting or fostering, NYC Teens for Animals is having an adoption event on Sunday March 15th at My Natural Pet in Bay Ridge. Below you can enjoy some pictures from our fun day!

Sweet Lorenzo hopes everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day and got lots of gifts! He wants to remind you that a gift meant to be a token of affection can actually be potentially dangerous for your pet. Chocolate, if ingested, depending on type and how much is ingested can result in a range of problems from vomiting & diarrhea to heart arythmias, seizures and even death. Remember, the darker and more bitter the chocolate, the more dangerous.
Also, flowers, while both beautiful and fragrant can also pose a serious threat to your pets. Common flowers that are toxic to pets are Carnations, Tulips, Baby's Breath, Lilies and Daffodils. Safer options are Sunflowers, Roses, Marigolds & Orchids.
If your pet does eat something they shouldn't, contact Poison Control and our office right away. Our office number is 718-621-1629 and ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is 888-426-4435
Enjoy your gifts and keep your pets safe!

We emailed our clients earlier today about our phone problems. Unfortunately, the phones have not yet been repaired. We can make outgoing calls, but cannot receive incoming calls and the message that you hear is not our usual after hours message. We are trying our best to rectify this situation as fast as we can. In the mean time, you can reach us via email at any time during our regular business hours tomorrow (Tuesday 2/3) from 9am-5pm. Just send us an email and we will get right back to you. We apologize for the inconvenience. It was not easy today trying to notify the clients and trying to respond to emails as soon as they came in, so we hope to have this issue resolved as soon as possible. But in the mean time, rest assured, we are in the office and available to you and your pets. Just reach out and we'll be happy to help!
