HIGHLIGHTS OF TRINBAGO PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION OF THE U.S.A., INC.
TPA was established to identify and provide needed services to enhance the quality of life of individuals and families living in the New York Metropolitan area and to institute and organize cultural and social programs for the advancement of the people of Trinidad and Tobago and of the Caribbean.
In keeping with its mission TPA has sponsored several successful Health Fairs in the Brooklyn communities.
TPA spearheaded a Winter coat drive and was successful in giving away over 500 hundred new winter coat.
TPA has sponsored teams of health care providers and professionals on nine (9) medical mission trips to Trinidad and Tobago: 1996, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007,2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016 and is now preparing for its 10th mission trip, scheduled for July 15 to July 29, 2018. These trips were primarily to Tobago but It should be pointed out that on 4 of those trips we were also in Trinidad.
On one such occasion a much needed Dialysis machine was donated to the Scarborough General Hospital. This was a welcomed contribution since at that time there was a shortage of dialysis machines in Tobago and some patients had to travel to Trinidad to be dialyzed.
On each of those occasions we provided free health screenings and information in dental care, cholesterol monitoring, diabetes, high blood pressure, breast self- examination, substance abuse and counseling, HIV/AIDS awareness and screening and prostate examination.
Over the years we have received and donated to several medical facilities, including the Scarborough General Hospital and to the public at large over one million dollars ($1,000,000.00tt) worth of supplies and equipment, including school supplies, wheel chairs, walkers, crutches and walking canes, as well as, a large amount of new and used adult and children clothing.
On our 2016 mission trip we gave away 40 wheel chairs, 25 walkers, as well as crutches, canes, bathroom chairs, commodes and clothing.
Upcoming events are: 24th Annual Awards Luncheon, May 6, 2018 and 10th Medical Mission trip, July 15th to July 29th, 2018.
