January isn’t just the start of a new calendar year; it’s also one of the most active periods for research planning across academic medicine. Historically, Q1 is a peak time for finalizing NIH grant submissions, launching new study concepts, and opening clinical trial protocols, as investigators align fresh ideas with new funding cycles and institutional priorities.

For the NET community, this means that many of the studies, therapies, and biomarkers highlighted at future NANETS Symposia are being conceptualized right now, in early brainstorming meetings, protocol drafts, and cross-disciplinary collaborations. In that sense, the new year isn’t only about reflection; it’s about laying the groundwork for the next wave of discovery that will shape NET care in the years ahead. https://loom.ly/z0ff2dQ

As we look ahead to 2026, the NET community reflects on a year of meaningful progress. At the 2025 NANETS Annual Multidisciplinary NET Medical Symposium, Dr. Simron Singh’s NET Year in Review highlighted advances across therapies, diagnostics, biomarkers, and clinical decision-making.

Pivotal trials expanded treatment options across NET subtypes, while targeted therapies and radioligand treatments showed broader and more durable impact. Biomarkers and imaging reinforced the move toward more precise, individualized care, and new data challenged long-held assumptions in surgery and liver-directed therapy. With updated guidelines, improving survival, and emerging topics like AI and GLP-1 receptor agonists, the field enters 2026 better equipped to translate discovery into patient impact.

This episode of NETCast features a panel on NET patient advocacy. They explore why advocacy is critical for this rare cancer, discussing challenges patients face at diagnosis, the importance of education and resources, research funding obstacles, and political advocacy efforts. The panel emphasizes that patients should be active participants in advocacy—whether through contacting reprsentatives, supporting research organizations, or engaging in educational initiatives—to make this "invisible" disease visible and drive meaningful change in treatment and outcomes.
