I looked up the research. And it's strong.

129 systematic reviews between 2018 and 2023 reached the same conclusion: massage works for pain.
Not "sort of" works.
Not "might help if you believe in it."
Actually, it measurably works.

Chronic anxiety and pain are medically unhealthy as they trigger a sustained fight-or-flight response, causing high blood pressure, inflammation, immune suppression, insomnia, and muscle tension.

⚫ Physiological Calm: When massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, it counteracts the "fight-or-flight" stress response, reducing heart rate and promoting deep breathing.
⚫ Hormonal Changes: A Thai massage session can reduce cortisol (stress hormone) and boost serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that stabilize mood and reduce anxiety.
⚫ Pain Relief Mechanism: Massage boosts the body's natural painkillers, endorphins. It also relaxes tight muscles and can inhibit pain signals from reaching the brain, often described as "closing the pain gate".
⚫ Physical Benefits: Improved blood flow and circulation assist in healing, while reduced tension relieves chronic headaches, back pain, and joint stiffness.

From a medical perspective, prolonged stress and pain are detrimental:

⚫ Cardiovascular Strain: Chronic anxiety increases heart rate and blood pressure, and increases the risk of heart palpitations.
⚫ Immune System Suppression: Chronic stress weakens the immune system, making it harder to fight infections.
⚫ Physical Deterioration: Chronic pain causes, or is caused by, severe muscle tension, poor posture, reduced range of motion, and fatigue.
⚫ Systemic Illness: Long-term anxiety is linked to gastrointestinal issues, chronic inflammation, and mental health challenges like depression.
Massage is frequently used as an adjunctive treatment for conditions like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and generalized anxiety disorder.

Each month on the second Tuesday, we examine a specific aspect of a traditional Thai massage protocol in detail.

4 CE NCBTMB and NY approved

This Thai massage course presents specialized techniques targeting the upper body. Students will learn techniques performed on a mat but will find they can easily adapt what they have learned to a massage table or chair.
The course consists of one lesson, in which students immediately pair up with a classmate and decide who is up and who is down. After an appraisal of the receiver’s health history, the remaining time will be divided equally between giving and receiving, so each participant can expect to receive work from a therapist who is observing the teacher performing the demo.
This class stands on its own as a set of specialized treatments catering to many people with hard-working hands. The intention is for it to be beneficial even if the students have already attended the same course in the past, since they will likely pair up with a different “body” each time and find a new inspiration
Prerequisite: The course is open to licensed massage therapists with prior education and experience in Thai massage.

We're excited to invite you to our upcoming class at ThaiMassage-NYC, where we’re offering a fantastic series designed specifically for therapists working with pregnant clients! This two-session course, totaling 6 Continuing Education credits, will delve into essential techniques for providing safe and effective massage in seated, side-lying, and semi-reclined positions, all while utilizing a massage mat on the floor.

It's a unique opportunity to expand your skill set and enhance your client care! Join us for these engaging 3-hour sessions, where you’ll gain valuable insights and hands-on experience to elevate your practice. Whether you're looking to better serve your prenatal clients or want to expand your knowledge base, this class is perfect for you! Don't miss out on this chance to learn, connect, and grow within our supportive community.

The specific benefits of four-hand Thai Massage

are the same as when there is one therapist; the difference is that we can get further in less time.

This unique massage technique employs synchronized movements and rhythms, allowing the therapists to apply their expertise simultaneously across various areas of the body. Clients often find themselves immersed in a harmonious wave of soothing touch, creating a profound state of tranquility that can effectively wash away the stresses of daily life.

Beyond the physical benefits, a four-hands Thai massage can serve as a powerful emotional and psychological balm. The collaborative nature of this treatment fosters a deeper sense of connection and trust between the therapists and the client, creating a comforting and safe space to unwind. This can be particularly advantageous for individuals grappling with anxiety, emotional stress, or those simply seeking a deeper sense of peace and relaxation in their lives. Participants often report a feeling of lightness and reinvigoration after their sessions, underscoring the transformative impact of this massage technique.

Our program allows you to start at any time during the year. You can purchase a single-day ticket for $150 per class, which lasts 4 hours.

4 CE NCBTMB and NY approved

Prerequisite: This course is available to licensed massage therapists for four hrs. of NCBTMB continuing education.
Students must complete all 5 Dojo I sessions to receive the 20 CE certificate.
Tuition is $150 for each 4 hours.

Dojo I Day 1 Demo: -Supine, starting with the feet. Discussion topics include: Intention - Dr. Shivagakomarpaj Theory: Sen

Thai Massage Dojo I & II overview.

There was already a Japanese term, Dojo (道場 dōjō), that means “place of the way,” so we adopted it for this curriculum.

Thai Massage Dojo Part I, 20 hrs, and Part II, 20 hrs, are a series of classes that offer ample time to cover all the techniques introduced in the Thai massage handbooks.

NCBTMB / NYS-certified CEUs are awarded when students complete each of the five 4-hour lessons in each section.

The instructor guides all practice time for one student while you practice with each other in tandem. It’s not just a long demonstration where students struggle to remember what to do afterward. Monthly Dojo classes feature both theoretical lessons and discussion topics, covering areas such as mindset, intention, time management, and other relevant issues. We also explore Thai culture and the rich history of Thai massage. The demonstrations feature detailed explanations and provide ample time for thorough practice of each technique. Additionally, students have opportunities to experience the methods firsthand when it's their partner's turn to practice. Time is also allocated for feedback before moving on to the next topic. Each lesson provides a complete package: History, Theory, and Practice.

Participants will learn by both receiving and giving massages. They are encouraged to attend one, two, or multiple lessons at $150 each to acquire new skills for their ongoing practice, regardless of their primary modality. Students must complete all lessons in any order to earn 20 hr. CE certificates for Dojo I and Dojo II. Each unit is repeated every year, but we often offer 4-hour review sessions that can replace any missing units you are interested in.

Join us for a hands-on, four-hour supervised practice session.

Students can complete all three dates to receive a CE certificate, which is NCBTMB and NYS approved.

This forum offers a unique opportunity to deepen your Thai Massage skills under the guidance of experienced teachers while practicing alongside peers. Participants will not only refine their techniques but also receive treatments, enhancing both learning and personal well-being. Perfect for practitioners looking to gain confidence and practical experience in a supportive environment.

This 6-hour continuing education course (certified by NCBTMB and NYS) focuses on Thai massage techniques that massage therapists need and enjoy receiving themselves.

This comprehensive training is designed for therapists who want to stand out, whether they aim to enhance the therapeutic value for their clients or wish to exchange treatments with skilled colleagues who offer a variety of massage options.
The course includes two weekly lessons where students partner with a classmate to decide who will be the giver and who will be the receiver. After reviewing the receiver's health history, the remaining time is equally divided between the giver and the receiver. This approach ensures that each participant receives treatment from an experienced therapist who demonstrates techniques to another student.
Each unit functions independently as a set of specialized treatments designed for individuals who use their hands extensively. We aim for this course to benefit all students, even those who have previously attended the same unit, as our protocols are continually evolving. Students are likely to partner with different therapists each time, enhancing their learning experience.

Prerequisite: This course is available to licensed massage therapists for six hrs. of NCBTMB continuing education.
Students must complete both sessions to receive the certificate.
Tuition is $112.50 for each 3 hours.
