Youth Carnival – 8/22/25

From face painting to sunscreen packets, origami, and spin-the-wheel prizes, we had a blast working alongside different youth organizations toward a common goal of community building.

FBW: Youth Development shared this mission while raising awareness about misconceptions surrounding Autism and the concerning facts about Asthma in the bustling city of NYC.

Thank you to the FBW: Youth Development team for collaborating in the planning, and with the presence of Farhan and Nabila at the booth, we were able to host a booth to remember!

A special thanks to Miftahul and Iktadar for their outstanding support. And congratulations to Nihan for receiving the sanitation kit prize, which he won after we spun the wheel with names from the attendance form.

Be sure to vote for the best drawing!

We’re excited to continue our weekly student-led post initiative, a space for young voices to educate, inspire, and lead important conversations.

This week’s post comes from Farhan Islam, a rising junior at University Heights High School and an aspiring medical professional, who chose to focus on the life-saving power of vaccines. His work breaks down the science, addresses common myths, and highlights why vaccines are one of the most important tools in public health.

Thank you, for sharing such an informative and timely message. We look forward to seeing what others choose to share next.

Astoria Welfare Society Award Ceremony – 8/4/25

Last night, members of the FBW Youth Development Team were invited to an award ceremony hosted by the Astoria Welfare Society, honoring Officer Gabriel Tovar for his impactful service. The event, led by community leaders in Queens, brought together media, high-ranking officers from the 114th Precinct, and changemakers from across the borough. Beyond celebration, we facilitated conversations centered on reflection and shared goals for community improvement.

Before sharing our concerns and presenting our vision for healthier neighborhoods, we stood in a moment of silence with officers from the 114th Precinct to honor Officer Didarul Islam, who tragically passed away in the line of duty. His legacy continues to inspire our commitment to building the future he would have wanted. May his family find peace knowing his impact will never be forgotten.

We were grateful for the platform to speak on pressing health disparities in Queens. Our Creative Coordinator, Raisha Khan, delivered a powerful speech on the Social Determinants of Health, highlighting urgent concerns and offering real solutions.

We look forward to continued collaboration with the Astoria Welfare Society, the 114th Precinct, and all those working toward a more just, equitable future for our communities.

We’re excited to kick off our new weekly student-led post initiative, a space for young voices to educate, inspire, and lead important conversations.

Our very first post comes from Zara Tasnia, a rising senior at Aviation High School, who chose to highlight the importance of emotional intelligence. Her decision to focus on this topic speaks volumes about the emotional awareness expected of us as students and the importance of building stronger communication, especially during times of struggle.

Thank you, .t4 , for starting this initiative with such a thoughtful and empowering message. We look forward to seeing what others choose to share next.

FBW Founder Supports in SAARA's Opening Ceremony – 8/1/25

Last night, CEO and Founder of FBW, MD Abdus Sobhan, proudly joined forces with the newly launched South Asian American Realtor Association (SAARA) at their opening ceremony, where Democratic Mayoral Primary candidate Zohran Mamdani was also in attendance.

Thanks to the hard work of SAARA’s board members and leaders in hosting and organizing today’s event, and to our president’s initiative in inviting Zohran Mamdani, we helped spotlight SAARA and the ambitious realtors it represents.

SAARA’s president and board members, seated on stage, delivered inspiring speeches. FBW CEO MD Abdus Sobhan also addressed the audience, sharing words of encouragement and inspiration. Zohran Mamdani used this powerful platform to reflect on the tragic death of Didarul Islam, reminding us to use every space, including this one, to live lives as honorable and fulfilling as his.

Our hearts go out to all the victims and everyone affected by this tragedy. As a community, we hold space for one another, offering comfort, strength, and hope. Thank you to General Secretary for covering such a heavy topic and creating meaningful slides.

There is a GoFundMe page in our Linktree for anyone interested in supporting the cause. Even if you can’t donate, simply reposting can help this message reach someone who can.

Although we’re small, our voices aren’t.

FBW: Youth Development was honored to participate in July Beyond Borders, hosted by the Consulate General of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the UN.

This event educated our youth about the freedom Bangladesh fought for and the deep cost of that victory. It offered a sobering reminder of the human toll of injustice and the strength it takes to fight for human rights.

Our condolences go to those who lost a son, a parent, a sibling, or a friend. Your grief is shared, and your resilience is honored.

Thank you to the Consulate and Embassy for the invitation, and to the youth who attended with professionalism, respect, and presence.

FBW: Youth Development is committed to empowering youth to take action. That mission was strongly fulfilled through this event. We will continue to show up wherever we are needed, as guests, collaborators, or hosts, to ensure young voices are informed and heard.

FBW: Youth Development Opening Ceremony – Jackson Heights, 7/11/25

Last night marked the launch of our Opening Ceremony — and it couldn’t have been a more inspiring start. We kicked things off with an energetic group of attendees, all eager to contribute and help where needed. Many of the students in the room were our age, or even older than some of the FBW team, yet they still made time to show up and support us on a hot Friday night. That kind of dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.

Thank you to all the students, parents, and guest speakers who joined us. Special shoutout to the tutoring centers, Flushing Bank, and our community leaders and politicians for showing up, we’re excited for future collaborations.

Congratulations to our rock-paper-scissors champion, Miftahul Jannat! And thank you to everyone who joined in, we look forward to bringing even more fun and engaging icebreakers.

We’re especially proud of our student speakers — Raisha, Nabila, Farhan, and SM — who spoke with power and courage about the job market, discrimination, Islamophobia, and the harmful impacts of the Trump administration on communities across the country. Your voices matter, and you’ve set the tone for honest, youth-led conversations this summer.

A heartfelt thank you to Maliha Rahman for her quiet but vital support behind the scenes. Let’s all keep her and her family in our prayers.

We’re looking forward to a purposeful summer filled with new partnerships and even bigger, better events across the city.

We’re just a team of teens — and we all have to start somewhere.
So let’s start now.

Chai with , Jackson Heights, 6/9/25

Last night, I attended an incredibly powerful campaign event for New York’s next mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

Thanks to the leadership of MD Abdus Sobhan — President of FBW — and his event partner, Fahad Solaiman, a respected community leader and advocate, we were able to bring the Jackson Heights community together to meet a leader they truly deserve.

I’m honored to have been included and to have helped organize alongside community leaders and Zohran’s team.

A special shoutout to social media influencer Fatema Pricila, who introduced Zohran with thoughtful, powerful questions that sparked even deeper conversations from the audience.

This event brought together students, media, business leaders, and organizers from across NYC. It was especially inspiring to see so many students actively engaging with community leaders and learning about the upcoming elections — gaining real insight into the power of civic participation.

🗳️ Election Day is June 24th — and the momentum is real. With polls showing a close race, make sure you're registered and ready to vote for Zohran Mamdani!

📸 Huge thanks to media teams like TBN24 and others, as well as independent advocates like Faraz Ansari, for capturing the heart of Jackson Heights and the energy of the night.

⚠️ Note: This was not an official FBW event — but an independent initiative led by Zohran’s campaign and individuals committed to youth voice, civic engagement, and building a better city. But look forward to more like this in the future we’re building together.
