⭐️CPMU Spotlight⭐️

Meet Ethan Gracer — a beloved member of CPMU and a true embodiment of what it means to serve with compassion and dedication.
Raised in Manhattan with Central Park as his backyard, Ethan joined the unit in 2018, driven by a desire to give back to the city he calls home. Inspired by a community that always stepped up for others, Ethan followed that example and quickly became a role model himself.
Today, Ethan is not only a trusted EMT but also a mentor and friend to many in the unit. He’s known for guiding new EMTs as they begin their journey in EMS. Whether it’s teaching someone to trust their instincts or helping them learn from mistakes, Ethan reminds us all that, "It's impossible to be human and to be perfect."
Ethan, your leadership, kindness, and commitment inspire us all. Thank you for being an irreplaceable part of CPMU — we’re grateful for everything you do.

CPMU members celebrated EMS week with a unique hands-on training hosted by our friends at The Mount Sinai Hospital

To kick off the event, Dr. Ethan Abott delivered an engaging presentation on the epidemiological overview of various interventions and their outcomes in pre-hospital cardiac arrest.

Members of CPMU had the opportunity to enhance their skills in CPR, learn how to interpret EKG rhythms, and practice advanced techniques in medication administration and airway management.

Congrats to our members, Eirene Tomlinson, Ethan Gracer, Julia Muallem, and Mark Sanders, for winning the CPR competition! Bragging rights well deserved!

And a special thank you to Dr. Sam Sondheim, Jared Kutzin, Dr. Ethan Abbott, Ed Diaz, Dr. Dimitri Alexis, and Dr. Anthony Ma for making this event possible. We had a great time and are looking forward to the next one!

Happy EMS week to all!

The CPMU Fleet! 🚑

Did you know that every CPMU ambulance is specially designed to navigate the park’s terrain and fit under its bridges? Plus, our CPMU Gator (not pictured) can maneuver through the park's narrow, steep paths to reach those hard-to-access areas. We take pride in knowing that our vehicles enable our crew to reach their patients faster and more safely.

Special thanks to our very own, Eriene Tomlinson and Adam Fried, for these beautiful photos!

⭐️CPMU Spotlight⭐️

Meet CPMU's dynamic duo, Timmy Li and Aaron Weinblatt! Both seasoned EMTs, they serve as the unit's training coordinators, leading monthly sessions where members can practice essential skills and engage in patient simulations.

Timmy has been with the unit for 15 years; he joined the unit to gain clinical experience and has since developed a passion for using his skills to make a positive impact on others. Outside of the unit, Timmy works as the VP of research at Northwell Health.

Aaron came on board 4 years ago, driven by his desire to help his community during the pandemic; he cares for his patients and always strives to make their bad days just a little bit better. During the week, Aaron works as a research coordinator at HSS. Recently, he was honored as the 2024 recipient of our unit's EMT of the Year award, unofficially known as the "Timmy Li Award."

Their unwavering commitment to both the unit and the field of EMS is truly inspiring. A heartfelt thank you to both of you for your continued dedication and hard work!

We are so LUCKY to have such amazing volunteers! Happy St Patrick’s Day to all those celebrating! ☘️☘️

On February 8, 2025, Central Park Medical Unit’s crew, Timmy, Aaron, Matthew, and Nathaniel, responded to a critical emergency—an unconscious patient in distress.

Upon arrival, the crew found the patient unresponsive, with weak vital signs and a dangerously high glucose level. As Mount Sinai’s ALS team arrived and began advanced life support assessments, the situation became even more dire—the patient went into cardiac arrest.

Without hesitation, CPMU’s crew jumped into action, initiating CPR, airway management, and ventilation while assisting the ALS team with their ALS protocols. After multiple rounds of CPR and advanced interventions, a pulse returned. The patient was transported to a local hospital with a spontaneous heartbeat and stable vital signs in the CPMU ambulance.

This is the power of volunteer EMS—dedicated responders giving their all to save lives in our community. We are incredibly proud of our team’s quick thinking, seamless teamwork, and unwavering commitment to service.

👏 Join us in thanking Timmy, Aaron, Matthew, and Nathaniel for their heroic efforts!

Please note this is the 5th Cardic Arrest Save in about 6 weeks by our CPMU Team of Volunteers.
