Heya folks! I wanted to share a couple blogs with you all 😀

They’re about the seasonal changes and the adjustments you can make in your lifestyle..all based on Ayurveda.

If you’re often falling sick at the onset of a new season or wondering why a certain diet doesn’t work anymore after a while, definitely give it a read.

I’ve tried these adjustments myself and they work wonders! I’m no longer confused about what my body needs during the day, even with the changing weather and occasional showers in November 🤣 and I wish the same clarity for you! 🤗

The internal air conditioning to stay cool in the body and calm in the mind.

1. Come to sit in padmasana, crossed legged, vajrasana or any other comfortable pose. Whatever your seat, make sure your spine is long and your whole body is relaxed, especially shoulders and belly.

2. Take two or three deep inhales and exhales through your nose to centre yourself in preparation for this pranayama practice.

3. Roll your tongue, curling the sides in towards the centre to form a tube (or a taco shape). Stick the end of the tongue out between your pursed lips. If you can’t roll your tongue, purse your lips instead, making a small “o” shape with your mouth. In this case, keep your tongue against the back side of your bottom teeth so that the air you are drawing in passes over it. Or, place your tongue on the roof of the mouth by sliding it back to rest on the ridge behind your top teeth.

4. Inhale slowly through the tube formed by your tongue as if you were sipping air through a straw for 5 seconds. Let the breath expand your chest and fill your belly. If your lips are pursed in an "o" shape, channel the air through that opening.

5. Close your mouth and exhale slowly through your nose for 5 seconds.

6. Feel the cool air entering your body and the warm air leaving you. Swallow the saliva if any, after an exhalation and right before an inhalation

7. Repeat at least ten times to maximise the cooling effect.

Avoid this practice if you are already feeling cold.
Make sure you practice pranayama on an empty stomach after your shavasana.

The onset of Spring!

Do you feel it in your body yet? At least in Mumbai one can.
The air is not dry anymore..It is starting to get a little warmer everyday.
No more snowfalls in the North.

Its interesting to notice the similarities between snow melting and the kapha melting and loosening in the body.
The way we are in sync with the planet 🌏🍃

Definitely time for some cleansing kriyas - salt water purge is a good one to start with. 🤮

I personally liked the cold weather better 😀
because I could eat as much as I wanted 3 or 4 times and guzzle coffee. 🐻
That has to change now, as eating heavy in spring is not the ideal thing to do - suggests ayurveda.
At least have to avoid eating the heavy fruits, vegetables, cereals and oils. 🍌🥥 🥔
Also have to avoid heat increasing beverages and practices. 🔥🚫

Gonna look at my options better suited for the weather and make some changes.
If you have any recommendations, please do share..

Fear / anxiety / worry - choose to call it anything but is an emotion that depletes all energy and brings exhaustion.
And the main cause is Attachment. The fear is always of losing the object you are attached to.

To be fearless, we need to cultivate courage.
Fear is a force that cannot exist along with the virtue of courage.
If we think of courage continuously, the fear will slowly vanish.

And there are ways of doing it practically -

Yogic books say -

"Atma Chintana is the most powerful method to eradicate fear.
Focus on / Think Of (Chintana) the Atman (Soul), which is a part of the Brahman (Creator / Creation).
Identify yourself with the Atman and not with the body and worldly belongings.
Knowledge of Brahman, the eternal Truth, totally annihilates fear.
The more you think of Atman, the more courageous you will become.
Through total self-surrender.

This Truth is to be pronounced and meditated upon.
An affirmation like this can help do the same -

I am fearless, all-pervading Atman
I am not afraid of anything
Courage is my birthright
I behold the one Atman everywhere
Everything is my own Self.
Who is to be afraid of whom?
There is fear only where there is duality.
There is no duality for me
My will is very powerful now
I have no enemy
As they cannot do harm to me
I love them as my own Self"

Overcoming fear just in this way will not suffice. It must be brought into practice.
We must face these fears one after the other.
For eg. If you are afraid of facing an audience, it must be the first and foremost priority to do so until you are free from stage fear and nervousness.
Then move on to the next one. If you are afraid of judgement, do something that you have been holding back. If you are afraid of failing, try something new and fail at it anyway.

HOW TO ANULOMA VILOMA PRANAYAMA
(Alternate nostril breathing)
There are plenty of versions that come from different schools and teachers. They are all correct in their own way.
The most important thing you need to know and do is - to focus on your breath and to control it.

1. Control your nostrils, control the intensity of your inhalation and exhalation.
2. Making sure that the flow is smooth on the way in and on the way out.
3. And your whole body is absolutely relaxed. Finishing your asana practice followed by yoga nidra is highly recommended and necessary for practicing breath work. The nervous system is relaxed and stable, heart rate is steady, you can focus better.
4. The first round can be 3 seconds inhalation and 3 seconds exhalation.
5. Next round can be 4 seconds.
6. Practice for a total of 10 rounds or till you feel tired and a maximum of 10 minutes.
7. Finish with yoga nidra.
Working with breath should never be done randomly without the necessary pre conditions. It can be harmful.
