We should all be aware of the importance of exercise to our overall health and wellbeing. Even moderate exercise such as walking has cardiovascular benefits. now research has shown that walking improves circulation to the discs of our spine. These cushions give our spines support and absorb shock. As we age these cushions thin and may cause back pain. Nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin D, manganese and glucosamine may be of help.

Vitamin D deficiency is now a pandemic. This vitamin is actually a hormone that effects several hundred genes in our body. That means it plays a role in keeping our bones strong, works with keeping our immune system working optimally, helps our nervous system to work efficiently to name a few things. A simple blood test can determine your level of the vitamin. Research shows that 5,000 IU a day is safe dosage for most adults. Remember that taking higher amounts is not always better. Get tested and start taking this remarkable vitamin. Follow up testing can determine if your levels are increasing.

Keeping our immune systems working optimally is crucial during these current times. Eating more fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, seeds and grains is important. Using stress reduction techniques as well as getting enough sleep and exercise supports a strong immune response. Vitamins D, C, zinc and probiotics are all a must.

Elevation in the amino acid homocysteine has been linked to an increased incidence of many chronic diseases. Studies show that this chemical may be linked to cognitive decline. Supplementing with B vitamins, especially B6, B12 and folic acid maybe an effective tool in the management of brain atrophy. Ask your physician about testing your homocysteine levels.
