SACHR is beyond proud to have strong leaders like Attorney General Letitia James at the Office of the New York State Attorney General to stand up for what’s right.

Full quote from SACHR’s Founder and President Joyce Rivera:

“Indivior, the manufacturer behind the harm-inducing drug Opvee, bears responsibility for fueling the opioid crisis alongside Purdue and other corporations. Now, they have shifted their marketing and training strategies to skirt accountability by bypassing our State Department of Health to lure unsuspecting municipalities to use their product in overdose prevention programs,” said Joyce Rivera, Founder and President of St. Ann’s Corner of Harm Reduction.

“Let’s be clear: efforts to reduce drug overdoses must be based on science and not dictated by corporate interests or market trends. The illicit drug supply is in constant flux with varying amounts of opioids, stimulants, sedatives, and inert additives. True, sustainable overdose prevention services center harm reduction and are built on community-driven solutions shaped by the wisdom and lived experience of those most affected, not by the companies that helped create the crisis in the first place.”

Who knew that an electrifying DJ set, mixed with pole and salsa dancing classes, went so well with Naloxone trainings and community building? (We knew 😉)

Special thanks to:

Expanding our mobile health services with innovation and compassion.

The SACHR Mobile Health Innovation Unit is a state of the art mobile health clinic which integrates medical care, holistic health services, and harm reduction services with a continuum of health and human services which focus on the needs of the entire person.

SACHR, with funding from the AIDS Institute, secured an innovative R/V unit complete with space for participant meal provision, health clinic consultation room, acupuncture, and a workforce and housing navigation center with the ability to provide free internet services to community participants.

This mobile unit will provide trauma-informed, culturally competent care, in participant-based languages
to build community trust and increase utilization and long-term care rates.

Helping Drug Users Help Themselves

Our efforts combine HIV testing, HEP-C testing, needle exchange, counseling, and other harm reduction and healthcare services within a true continuum of care. These services offer a unique combination of programs and solutions to improve health, well-being, and re-integration into the community. We also work extensively to prevent overdoses through Naloxone (Narcan) training and other outreach methods.

Our grassroots work began with a needle exchange program to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS among intravenous drug users in the South Bronx. This practice is now accepted as the international gold standard for disease prevention and endorsed by public health groups, such as the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association and the U.S. Surgeon General.

Today we are a multi-service agency providing a continuum of interventions that treats the whole person – at whatever stage they are. In addition to our street outreach, our center assists with basic needs, such as shower, food and clothing. We offer a quiet sanctuary with stress-reduction services, such as acupuncture, yoga and massage. We also provide educational workshops and counseling. Referral relationships with other service organizations and colleagues give our participants choices – both in and outside of SACHR – as they make their journey toward a healthier and safer life.
