At the best of times, 60% of women who say they want to breastfeed either aren’t able to, or they run into challenges that force them to stop sooner than they’d hoped. While many of these challenges can be overcome with the right help, the pandemic has made those resources nearly impossible for new mothers to access. Outside of hospitals, almost every form of face-to-face support that new mothers can normally turn to—breastfeeding groups, in-home visits from trained specialists—has disappeared. While there are options online for new mothers to turn to for support, they can often be hard to troubleshoot over a video or online forum, leaving women to figure things out for themselves—or not, according to research conducted. At the link in our bio, we spoke to new mothers and health care experts about how new moms aren't getting the breastfeeding support they need amid the pandemic.

We need to rally up as much support as possible this week to ensure an important bill to pass. Our police system does to Black people what our healthcare system does to Black birthing people. There are too many lives lost. That. Is. Not. Ok. Enough is ENOUGH!!

NEW YORKERS!! We need more Birth Centers! Please support the passing of A10440 and S08307, the same bill, introduced by sponsors Gustavo Rivera and Richard Gottfried. This bill removes obstacles which exist in the licensure process for midwifery led freestanding birth centers in New York State. It provides the commissioner of health to approve the operating certificate of a midwifery birth center accredited by a recognized accrediting organization. You can go into and utilize this url http://www.mygovnyc.org/ to learn who represents you. Make your own post or share my latest (on either IG or FB), and please tag your representatives, or if you are short on time, tag them in the comments of my existing post. If you are unsure of your local representatives’ social media twitter or IG handles, you can DM (we mostly have twitter handles and many IG handles) ✊🏽

🌸 As you may know, midwifery led birth centers ensure the well treatment of birthing families and will help address the systemic maternal health failings that impact our black communities of New York. We must become a part of the solution to the current crisis we face. Stay in touch with our progress
