Last week, we teamed up with Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Veterans to host a special Veterans Cookout at our East New York Health HUB—and News 12 Brooklyn came by to check it out!

With the help of our generous partners, we served up more than 100 meals, distributed 96 summer care kits, enjoyed live music, and celebrated our community with good food and even better company.

We’re proud to support veterans living with mental health challenges through transitional housing and behavioral health care. Huge thanks to our volunteers, partner organizations, and everyone who joined us to honor those who have served. 💙

STEPS is taking a big step forward.

Just one year after launching, our innovative Step-down Treatment Ensures Personal Success (STEPS) program is being replicated across New York City with $4.5 million in new funding from NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Mayor Eric Adams, and the New York City Council.

Piloted with funding from the Helmsley Charitable Trust, STEPS is a first-of-its-kind model that helps New Yorkers with serious mental health challenges step down from intensive care programs like Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT), rebuild stability, and live more independently. In its first year, it delivered results: better outcomes for participants and saved the city millions.

Now, it's scaling up! Because when care works, it should be accessible to more people. We're thankful to the city for recognizing the impact of STEPS and investing in a model that puts New Yorkers on the path to a better future.

We’re deeply grateful to Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez () for the opportunity to speak out against devastating Medicaid cuts.

More than 80% of ICL clients rely on Medicaid for life-changing care. Jenn, one of our clients, shared: “Medicaid made it possible for me to have therapy, housing support, medical care, and parenting help.”

These cuts would be catastrophic. We will not stay silent while our communities are put at risk. We’re proud to stand with our partners and elected leaders to protect Medicaid and the people who depend on it.

There’s something truly special about sharing a moment to pause, breathe, and heal among community. 💫 Recently, the ICL housing team partnered with Siembra Today to host a deeply restorative Sound Healing Wellness Event at our Nevins Street Apartments in Brooklyn.

Staff and clients gathered for a soothing session focused on relaxation, emotional balance, and inner peace. Participants found space for connection, reflection, and self-care through sound healing practices.🧘‍♀️

We’re so grateful to our wonderful partners at Siembra Today for helping us create such a meaningful and healing experience!

“Becoming a mother is a beautiful and rewarding experience, but it comes with a set of challenges that often go unrecognized. Maternal mental health is a critical dimension of perinatal care that is often overlooked amid the focus on the physical aspect of pregnancy.”

ICL's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Glen Davis recently published an article in Behavioral Health News on how we can better support maternal mental health and break the silence around stigma. His latest piece offers a compassionate, clinical lens on maternal mental health and reminds us that healing begins with understanding. 💙

Read it here:

Addressing maternal mental health with early screening, support, and stigma reduction improves outcomes for mothers, babies, and families.

Coming soon: a reimagined Emerson-Davis Family Residence in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn! This first-of-its-kind program is designed for families facing serious mental health challenges, helping them stay together or reunite in housing that comes with all the support services families need to prosper. 🏠✨

The new 11-story building, developed by ICL in partnership with NYC Mayor's Office and NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) will include 103 affordable and supportive apartments, on-site services like trauma-informed therapy and parenting support, and thoughtfully designed communal spaces that foster healing and independence.

For more than 25 years, Emerson-Davis has filled a critical gap in New York City’s housing and child welfare systems. This $77 million redevelopment will allow us to serve even more families and ensure they have the housing, care, and stability needed to stay together and thrive.

Thankful for the support from our friends: New York State Homes & Community Renewal, Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas, Office of Mental Health, Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan, The Richman Group, TD, New York City Council, Council Member Crystal Hudson, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Dattner Architects, and Mega Contracting Group.

Construction is set to begin on the Emerson-Davis Family Residence at 161 Emerson Place in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the distinct mental health challenges faced by Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and to emphasize the importance of care that honors each person’s culture, identity, and lived experience.

We know healing happens when care is comprehensive, culturally responsive, and person-centered. That’s what our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams are all about.

Follow Mei Bo Hui, a participant in ICL’s ACT program, as she shares her story of recovery and the power of being supported by a team that truly sees her.

ICL’s ACT teams bring whole-person, community-based care directly to people living with serious mental health challenges, especially those for whom traditional systems have fallen short. We meet people where they are, with respect for who they are. 💛
