As we begin the holiday season, remembering to take care of yourself can be difficult.

Yoga Nidra calms the mind and reinvigorates the body. It is said that “one hour of yoga nidra is the equivalent of four hours of deep sleep”

Join me tonight online via zoom. All registrants will receive a recording of the class and can practice at their convenience.

Yoga Nidra is a profound experience. Known as “psychic sleep” where the body and mind is completely relaxed. My teacher used to say while instructing it’s “like anesthesia”. Relaxing each body part, and forgetting about it.

I took a stroll through Union Square farmers market the other day and the dahlias were incredible.

I love the shapes and vibrancy of the colors, photos don't do these flowers justice.

Try this short flower meditation:

🌸 sit up straight in a chair or seated in yoga posture🧘‍♀️

🌺 Close your eyes and think of your favorite flower.

🌷imagine you are right next to it, smelling the aroma, touching the petals, maybe there are some water droplets on the leaves.

🌻 Breathe in and imagine the aroma.
Keeping your eyes closed, imagine all the details of the flower, the color, the location, the sunshine, the petals, thorns etc.

🌼 Now, imagine that flower at the center of your eyebrows. Place all your awareness there.
Inhale from the flower between your eyebrows to your heart center. Exhale from your heart center up to the flower between your eyebrows. Repeat this for a few moments.

Slowly open your eyes.

Sometimes, my clients arrive by bike! 😆
This weekend my client arrived, clearly this is her second pregnancy. Often clients say that the second pregnancy is more difficult. Just think about how blissful your first pregnancy was. For one, you were not chasing after and caring for a toddler during your first. Its a lot harder to get those blissful naps, baths and even scheduling a much needed massage when you have other children. I keep my practice open on Saturdays so many of my clients can try to schedule, while their partner takes care and they can receive a massage.

Do you have any tips for second pregnancy? What helped you get through and manage postpartum recovery and childcare?

Today, Shlipi Kapoor(far left), McKenna Boyd (next to me on the right) both from right here on 30 Broad street, stopped by to introduce themselves. It really makes a difference to see people face to face.

Both McKenna and Shlipi specialize in pelvic floor physical therapy. Some common pregnancy and postpartum related conditions they work with are tail bone/coccyx pain, diastasis, urinary incontinence, post C-section to name a few.

They use a variety of techniques to help empower patients to really understand their anatomy and how it is functioning.

Debbie also spent some time introducing how she works with patients and how acupuncture can complement IVF treatments, pain during pregnancy, recovery during postpartum and herbs for perimenopause and menopause.

I love meeting people who are passionate about what they do.

takes insurance!

It’s great to have more resources for clients.

Have you been for pelvic floor PT?

This week has been quite a week! Energetically, you may feel “off”, irritated, or as if nothing seems to be going right.
As a massage therapist, we too have those days. Trains may be delayed, clients canceling last minute, and an overall sense of “what else can I do here to turn this around”. Sometimes we feel these things so we can break through the old patterns that are no longer serving us. Giving us the opportunity to make a change and shift the energy.

I grew up in the time of TaeBo videos, “buns of steel”, “abs of steel” and Jillian Michaels cardio videos. Like, actual VHS videos. In many of the cardio videos the weights were 1-5lbs max. The only times I would work out would be to lose weight, for a wedding, or closer to beach season.
Since working with my mindset toward exercise has finally shifted. I’m now working out to continue being able to work as a massage therapist, and live life more efficiently.
I also learned that when MY body is sore after a workout, I should do some movements to help that soreness ease, instead of waiting until the soreness stops.
Dr. Shannon helped me this winter when I fell on the sidewalk and “couldn’t workout” she helped me see that there are definitely OTHER things I could do that did not involve putting pressure on my hand. I believe I recovered faster because of this.

I work out 3-4 times a week now. And believe me, I never thought I’d be writing a post like this. I know life happens and there are definitely days that I’ve missed or put off for another day, but I do what I can when I can. Having a coach really helps!

Have you shifted your mindset toward something you thought was definitely not “you”?

While in Maine this past weekend, I found this rock and of course it reminded me of a foot. 🤣
Reflexology is one of the most deeply relaxing techniques, even more so than massage therapy. I love offering reflexology and include a short intro to reflexology with each of my sessions. Some clients find more benefits from reflexology and say the effects last a lot longer than massage. What clients often say is “whatever you did on the feet, just put me into a whole other dimension”
Often those clients will extend their massage session to include 15 or 30 extra minutes just for reflexology.

Have you tried reflexology?
Has it helped you in any way?

I love hearing from clients, especially on their Labor Day! It’s such an incredible experience to be able to provide support to pregnant women. Some need massage for physical discomfort. Some need to find the calm within and totally relax. Whatever it is you need, I can help you prepare for your birth day! Being prepared physically, mentally and emotionally, can really help your labor process.

Has massage, reflexology or energy healing helped you? Did you feel more “ready” for your baby’s birth day?

Wow!! This seems like a lifetime ago!

I trained with in 2009 and moved to Vermont that summer.

Although I only had a handful of birth clients, I quickly realized that the “on-call” lifestyle was not for me.
I had to make a choice. Did I prefer having a schedule and doing massage therapy, Or being a birth doula? I loved both so, as you can imagine, it was quite the dilemma.

It was early in the morning, right after attending a birth, I had to call my client and cancel her prenatal massage appointment, she was 39 1/2 weeks. I could hear the disappointment in her voice and it broke my heart. We tried to reschedule but, I just didn’t have a permanent office space at the time and wasn’t so flexible.
It was then I decided that I prefer doing prenatal massage and having a set schedule.

Even today, clients as me to be their birth doula but have to politely decline. There are so many amazing doulas out there!

It’s been a really long time, almost 15 years, since I did an event in a corporate setting. It can be hard to provide services to clients for 15-20min at a time, it usually takes that long for the body to settle during a regular massage. Yesterday, I provided reiki and reflexology to a company in the WTC and it was so good to hear many of the people gently snoring after only 5min of reflexology. 😴
Many commented “I felt like I was here, but then drifted off somewhere” or “I was here, but not here” and this is the space where healing takes place. Your body is in a total state of relaxation. Not thinking. Not sleeping. It’s similar to where people who meditate strive for. The “nothingness” space. I remind clients that that calm and quiet exists within us always. We just have to remember this space exists especially in times of stress and uncertainty, and tap into it when we need it.

Have you had reflexology or reiki?

International Women’s day.

I have so many women who I absolutely credit for my growth as a human but also keeping me in shape to continue to do what I love. Here’s a few for today, but look for future posts highlighting more!

-Debbie is an incredible acupuncturist. She has helped me through some of the most difficult times in the past few years ranging from digestive issues, stress, hormonal changes and so much more!! If you are curious whether acupuncture will help you, schedule a session and try for yourself.

- I think I need a couple of posts to explain how Shannon has managed to guide me and coach me to a point where I actually look forward to exercise! I wouldn’t be doing 4-5 massages a day for 5days if it wasn’t for her approach. Contact her today! She is amazing!!

- yes! I receive bodywork. I like to receive different therapies and Jenny, really combines the structural knowledge with the energetic balance.

I just want to say thank you 🙏🏻 to all my clients who continue to recommend me to family and friends.

I hope you all celebrate the women in your life everyday! ❤️
