Health Promotion is part of DWDC’s diverse programming that serves the community of Washington Heights and upper Manhattan. Our programs offer education, direct services, and advocacy related to HIV Prevention, health insurance enrollment, sexual and general health, diabetes, asthma, and more. Dominican Women’s Development Center (DWDC) is a non-profit organization located in Washington Heights, N

orthern Manhattan. DWDC was founded in 1988 by nine Dominican women who identified the need for Latinas to organize around critical issues and seek solutions to systemic problems affecting their families and community, such as sexism and discrimination, high housing costs, low-achieving schools, high dropout rates, limited access to health care services, attacks on reproductive rights, high teenage pregnancy, and high poverty rates. DWDC has developed a matrix of program services that includes; Anti-Domestic Violence, Educational Development, Economic Development, a home-based early head start program, a preventive program and a health promotion program.
