Sinclair DNA

Sinclair DNA The Facebook Fan Page of the Sinclair DNA Study. We test and interpret the DNA of Sinclair family me Clair / Sinceler, (etc) family.

St Clair Research was started in 2004 to study the DNA of the worldwide Sinclair / St. We've managed the DNA journeys for over 600 members now and the project continues to grow. Anyone with a similar surname, or who suspects a blood relation, is very much welcome to join. We use Family Tree DNA as our testing lab. We guide family members through the simple (no blood required) testing procedure and help you analyze the results to understand from which of our many family lineages you might descend. References for our study are available upon request. We're a family study of volunteers who are happy to provide advice for other families who are getting started. Please click the "Like" button above and watch for regular updates and ideas on this fan page.

Narrative VS Facts - To be clear, the narrative of a family should not be accepted as "Fact" no matter how forcibly written or spoken. The definition of "narrative" is: "a spoken or written account of connected events; a story." The facts in our DNA study are the SNPs of those who have done the deepest testing possible. These also have to be put through even further study at Yfull. Once that's done, then we can BEGIN to know the facts of the branches. Emphasis on "begin" because the surnames one matches in the Big Y are of extreme importance and cannot be overlooked, especially if these same surnames show up in reliable medieval records (the Narrative) of the family in a timeframe that matches the SNP dating of that branch. We have this in our two ancestral lineages - Caithness and Herdmanston.

We currently have over 14 lineages who are not kin within about 4,000 years at best. Some of us don't relate to other lineages for over 20,000 years.

For instance, the group I call our Herdmanston branch showed R-U106 like our Caithness branches, yet they split off to become R-M269. That mutation is believed to have split off R1b approximately 4,500 - 9,000 years ago. Those alive today carrying that mutation are found in the greatest density in Ireland (80%), Switzerland (58%), England (57%), Netherlands (54%), and interestingly France (52%).

The group I call the Caithness branch are all part of the U106 mutation. In the 2007 articles of Myres et al. and Sims et al, the people alive today carrying the U106 mutation currently live in Netherlands (35%), Austria (23%), England (20%), and Germany (19%).

These are Facts.
