Tight muscles? stiff hips? Time to loosen up ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป

Mobility work is just as important for a well-rounded fitness routine as strength and cardio work. Incorporating mobility exercises into your workout schedule will help you improve flexibility, reduce tightness, and ultimately, make your workouts more efficient and safe.

Try incorporating these mobility exercises into your daily routine to unwind and open up your chest, back, and shoulders before a small ache or pain becomes a bigger problem.

Piriformis Stretch
The piriformis muscle is a deep internal hip rotator, located on the outside of the butt. Its primary role is external rotation, Since the piriformis crosses over the sciatic nerve, if it is tight, it can result in sciatic nerve irritation. Stretching this muscle can prevent potential future sciatica, or help treat it.

Try This

๐Ÿ”นSit on the floor with both legs extended in front of you.
๐Ÿ”นCross your right leg over your left, and place your right foot flat on the floor.
๐Ÿ”นPlace your right hand on the floor behind your body.
๐Ÿ”นPlace your left hand on your right quad or your left elbow on your right knee (as shown) and press your right leg to the left as you twist your torso to the right.
๐Ÿ”นIf the spinal rotation bothers your back, take it out and simply use your left hand to pull your right quad in and to the left.

Friday thoughts heading into Thanksgiving week... grateful to have two chief residents .bas.md and who have really impacted the residency this year with their leadership and dedication. (A couple nights ago skipped free tacos and stayed to help with a not fun surgery, next day came in for the assist on a complex case on what could have been an easy day).
Along with that thought comes the realization that we are almost halfway through their chief year, and Orthopedic residency interview invites are go out next week. Somewhere in that invite list are two applicants who are next in line, and 6 years from now will raise the level one more notch.
