Big changes are coming to citywide construction, as the DOB prepares to implement new 2022 Building Codes.

For now, the 2014 Code still applies to permits when the application is submitted before November 7th. After that point, the 2022 Code will apply. If the project requires a Site Safety Plan, it must be approved before the cutoff (alongside the application) in order for the project to be subject to the 2014 version of Chapter 33.

In response to the rush of construction personnel who have not updated their Site Safety Training (SST) cards before the February 1st deadline, the Building Department has granted a 45 day window of non-enforcement.

This means that workers and supervisors have until MARCH 18th 2023 to update their cards. No violations will be issued for non-compliance before this new deadline.

It's week; a good time to consider both the growth and the challenges of gender equality in the trades.

Women have been able to grow in construction over recent years, currently making up over 10% of industry positions, according to . However widespread problems of inequity and harassment remain [reminder that as of 2019, all employers in NYC must provide harassment prevention training at least once per year. Approved training is available online for free at nyc.gov]
