Dr. K walks us through what you can expect during an awake liposuction procedure, step by step!
1. Numbing Stage:
The first phase involves carefully numbing the target area. The numbing process itself can cause a burning sensation, but after this, you are comfortable and ready for the main event!
2. Liposuction Phase:
• Using the same small incisions, a slightly thicker cannula is inserted.
• This cannula is connected to a vacuum system.
• The surgeon gently moves the cannula back and forth, effectively suctioning the unwanted fat into a canister.
• For a Lipo 360, this part of the procedure typically takes about one hour.
• During this phase, you should feel less than the initial numbing, primarily experiencing pressure rather than pain. You are often asked to turn to ensure comprehensive and even results!
3. Fat Transfer (If Applicable):
• If you’re having a fat transfer, some of the removed fat is immediately reinjected into the desired areas through the same incisions.
• This takes only about five minutes.
