said she spends her spare time getting acupuncture. Honestly, same.

She's the latest in a long line of people who've quietly added needles to their wellness routine. Athletes, new parents, and people who just want to feel better in their bodies.

The abdomen and hands shown here are both areas with high nerve density, and needling them may support nervous system regulation, digestion, and relief of systemic tension.

Runners have a predictable map of trigger points. If you run 20+ miles a week, these muscles accumulate load:

πŸ”Ή Glute medius
πŸ”Ή TFL
πŸ”Ή Re**us femoris
πŸ”Ή Vastus lateralis
πŸ”Ή Gastroc, soleus
πŸ”Ή Tibialis anterior, tibialis posterior
πŸ”Ή QL, iliopsoas for back pain prone runners

Dry needling these muscles may keep you healthy through marathon training. Comment "Book Now" to schedule your appointment.

The New York Times just profiled how pro athletes are blowing past the old limits of age. Writer Devin Gordon spoke with Alysha Clark, 38, the oldest active player in the WNBA, about her nine-step recovery routine. Electroacupuncture is part of it.

Needles plus low-level electrical current. It's not complicated, and it's not new. But elite athletes are using it because the evidence supports it and because careers depend on staying healthy longer.

You don't have to be a pro to recover like one.

The forearm flexors are frequently involved in golfer's elbow and grip weakness, but often go untreated because the pain shows up elsewhere rather than in the muscle causing it.

Rowers are particularly prone to flexor overload from sustained grip through the drive phase, but this pattern shows up in anyone doing repetitive pulling work: climbing, tennis, weightlifting, or any job that requires prolonged gripping. πŸ“

You can also get forearm flexor tightness from excessive typing and computer use β€” so we see this a lot in computer programmers and heavy computer users. πŸ’»

The referral pattern runs to the inside of the elbow and into the fingers, which is why it's often mistaken for a joint or nerve issue rather than a muscle one.

Dry needling these muscles may reduce referred pain, improve grip strength, and help the surrounding tissues recover.

Stretching doesn't fix a trigger point. Foam rolling doesn't either. Rest just delays the next flare.

If your IT band, Achilles, or shin pain keeps coming back every training block, the muscle driving it hasn't been addressed.

Dry needling finds the actual source. IT band pain is usually TFL and glute med. Shin splints often trace back to tibialis anterior and posterior. Achilles issues usually start in the gastroc and soleus. Hip tightness is often the iliopsoas, a muscle that's nearly impossible to stretch effectively.

We run near Central Park. We treat runners from all five boroughs. We know this pattern.

Still hurting after stretching, icing, and resting? Muscle pain doesn't always start where it hurts. It may come from trigger points, tight, irritable knots in muscle tissue that refer pain to other areas. Which is why your knee might be driven by your TFL, your headache by your SCM, and your foot pain by your calf.

The Trigger Point Pain Finder helps you connect the dots.

We've built 7 free guides covering every major region of the body. Each one walks you through the muscles most likely responsible for your symptoms, what they feel like, what aggravates them, and what you can do today.

Most people who are nervous about acupuncture are picturing a hypodermic needle. That's not what we use.

Acupuncture needles are solid, flexible, and about the width of a human hair. Most patients don't feel the insertion at all. What they notice is a mild heaviness or dull ache when the needle reaches the right depth. That's normal, and it usually passes within seconds.

A lot of first-timers fall asleep on the table. That's also normal.

If you've been putting it off because of the needle fear, this is worth trying.

πŸ“Œ Save this if you've been on the fence.

Tightness and weakness are usually the same problem wearing different masks.

If a muscle can't generate force through its full range, the body shortens it to protect the joint. Then neighboring muscles pick up the slack, get overloaded, and tighten too. The cycle keeps going until something breaks down.

Dry needling and acupuncture can interrupt that cycle by restoring normal muscle activation, not just releasing tension.
