In being sick for the better part of a month, I’m learning that taking care of yourself and taking the time to make an actual proper meal is some magic ✨

I made congee with ginger, miso, reishi, shiitakes, and garlic. I had it with an egg (!!) cooked in sesames, Brussels sprouts and some cashews.

Wherever you go, there you are.

This week, I’ve been feeling emotionally under-stimulated. The newness dust is settling and I’m missing pieces of my pnw life that are a bit unmatched here. Straddling this new version of my life here and what it was back in 2019 when I was here last is a trip. This feels like such a time of birth & death, and as the seasons shift I am reminded to be still with the grief & the joy & the discomfort that comes with change. Trying to hold it all loosely and find comfort in routines that feel stabilizing.

I’d recommend listening to Krista Tippet’s interview of Katherine May on her book “Wintering”. I relistened this week- it feels like a guide to navigating the cycles of discomfort & ease that come in seasonal shifts, but generally the nature of being human. It’s beautiful.

How are y’all caring for yourself this week?

~I do not have to earn or deserve feeling good~ a learning from a week of clunky self care.

I had a really chaotic week & felt pretty burnt & tapped out, especially at my day job. My judgment of this time was that I didn’t take care of myself well/at all, but I really really did!

What are you holding onto as you care for yourself during chaos times?

✨✨✨✨

2 new babies, 2 repeat parents, 2 new, 1 sister, grandparents, friends… it’s so wild to witness new life joining this plane, to see the first drop in the pond of their life’s ripple effect on us all. No matter how it happens, birth always brings me to my knees.

Such an honor to be back doing this work.

Photo 1 is me at Columbia, uptown, waiting on an epidural insertion & photo 2 was my magical waiting view in Central Park as I passed time before being summoned.

Body Literacy & Fertility Awareness, a workshop for cycling folks who don't want to get knocked up. Coming January 2023!
_________

This offering is a deep dive into cyclical health & tracking to support a fertility awareness practice. If you’ve ever been curious to know more about your body & signs of fertility, this course is for you. Whether you’re trying to conceive, avoid pregnancy, or don’t have s*x with folks who can get you pregnant- this information is invaluable. Having a deeper understanding of our bodies and fertility can support overall wellness, identify hormonal imbalances & reconnect us to the physical space we occupy. I’ve used this practice first and foremost as a way to learn how to feel safe in my body. It keeps me rooted in the physical- often a hard place to be. It has allowed me to advocate for myself & my needs with partners as well as my health care.

Through this course, we will dive into:

body literacy
embodiment
the fertility awareness method
anatomy
menstrual cycle
cycle charting
meet your cervix!
cervical fluid
cycle charting for birth control

After completing the course, you have the option to meet with me 1:1 for a full consult (or 2!) to support you through establishing your own charting practice.

I'm putting on a 4-week series at the start of 2023! Body Literacy & Fertility Awareness, for cycling folks who don't wa...

Wrote a lil diddy on herbal support after hormonal birth control

Hormonal birth control can have potential serious physiological consequences. If you are choosing to stop use of hormonal birth control, it's important to support your body in this transition. Consider supporting the body systems most impacted by hormonal birth control usage- the endocrine system, l

A couple small questions that can make a huge difference if you’re trying to avoid unnecessary interventions in pregnancy & labor.

If the answer is yes, then why is an induction or a cesarean or any other intervention being recommended? You can ask your doctor this! You should ask your doctor this!

There is a very real power dynamic between patients and doctors and it can feel so scary to question medical advice, especially when in a vulnerable position (pregnancy & labor can feel super vulnerable!!). Asking these questions can give you the information you need to feel comfortable pushing back. This is where self-advocacy starts and can make a huge impact on birth outcomes.

You are in charge, you always have options, and you know your body best.

What makes you feel safe? I have a tendency to be ~tightly wound~. This + an attempt at finding safety & security in my life has looked a lot like CONTROL & RIGIDITY, especially in the past several years. I have thought that if I set up all these routines, I’d have anchors that keep me regulated. The less in control I have felt, the more I’ve doubled down. The ironic thing is that the more I’ve indulged the need for security, the more I’ve isolated myself and become SO sensitive and fragile and rigid and any disruption could really send me off into space.

It’s really lonely being so tight.

Something I love about change, and especially about the pulse of New York, is that if you lean in, life fills up a lot. Connection happens & life is lived. I’m learning to unwind. Spaciousness feels a lot less mentally chaotic than the death grip I’ve had on my plans and structures and I am feeling so full on community.

Being witnessed in living. That feels like safety right now.
