2. Host fund

Supporting great organizations like DOVE Transplant - Living Kidney Donation for Veterans is what the DBKF is all about!

We just received a donation from the The Dennis Bligen Kidney Foundation (DBKF).

This is especially meaningful due to the history DOVE Founder & Director, Sharyn Kreitzer, has with both Dennis and his sister (and DBKF Director) Julie Childs.

Dennis, a former running back was one of the first patients at the Mount Sinai Hospital to receive a transplant through . Dennis has given back in countless ways to the community since his transplant many years ago. His amazing family started DBKF in honor of Dennis and to support others coping with and to improve access to early kidney care particularly in high risk communities.

We are eager to collaborate and we
thank DBKF for choosing DOVE as a partner in your efforts to for all!

For kidney patients, the pandemic is not over. Those who at higher risk, like kidney transplant recipients, continue to need more tests and antiviral therapies that can help them build antibodies to fight the coronavirus. But Congress recently failed to come to an agreement on additional funding that would help kidney patients and the immunocompromised get access to the drugs and testing they still urgently need.

We need you to act now and urge your Members of Congress to work toward an agreement and get this funding passed, for every member of the kidney community that they represent.

For kidney patients, the pandemic is not over. Those who at higher risk, like kidney transplant recipients, continue to need more tests and antiviral therapies that can help them build antibodies to fight the coronavirus.

We’re so pleased to report that Julie Childs’ kidney transplant is complete. Both she and Margaret Cartolano are currently recovering. Thank you for your continued prayers, thoughts, and support as these ladies gradually regain their strength.

Each day, 13 people die awaiting a life-saving kidney transplant, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. While deceased donors help to offset some of the need, it cannot keep pace with the growing number of people who need kidney transplants (there are currently around 8,500 people in need of an organ transplant in New York state, which has one of the worst wait times in the United States). As we purchase gifts for loved ones this holiday season, let’s remember that living donation is one of the best gifts you can ever give. What an inspiring story of selflessness and love!

The legend writes about the episode in her latest memoir, "Tina Turner: My Love Story.”
