Procrastination isn’t about laziness — it’s about avoiding discomfort. When a task makes us feel overwhelmed, anxious, bored, or afraid of failing, our brain looks for something that feels better in the moment. So we scroll, clean, or do something easier instead.
The problem is that the relief is temporary. The task is still there, and now we often feel guilt or stress on top of it.
A helpful way to break procrastination is to make the task smaller — start with just five minutes, lower the pressure to be perfect, and focus on simply getting started. Often, once we begin, the resistance fades.
